The Chief of P lieu shall he ex-officio jai ler, and have

preserve every warrant of commitment, and keep a record, in a
book provided for tint purpose, of all persons committed to the

I SECTION 525. SUPORDI'hTES. The Chief of Police shall, by
and with the advice and consent of the City Council, and appro-

Police, with the consent of the Council, moo, at any time re-
move any eubordinai;e employee, main or agent without charges
being preferred and ;rlthout a. trial, hearing or opportunity to
be hoard, whenever, in his opinion, the good of tOe service
;e will be subserved thereby, and such removal shall be final and
. `,conclusive.: The City Recorder shall forthwith notify in.,writ-
i.ng the-removed person of such removal; it shall not be neoes-
nary to state Any oease therefor, and from the time of. neti- j
.fioation, the person so removed shall in no case be 'entitled to'
any salary_or compensation whatever.
SECTION 526. ASSIOP ST TO DUTY. The Chief of Police
shall design ,te in writing, filed with the City Recorder, and a'
duplicate thereof filed with the City Auditor, one policeman to
act as captain of police, seven policemen to

man to act as second duty sergeant, one policeman to act as

policemen to act as patrolmen. Whenever any change shall occur
in the police depart e.t by death, resignation, removal, trans-
„ fer, promotion or reduction, the Chief of Police shall, in like 1
