AN ORDINANCE AMENDING Section 25-9-1 of the Revised Ordinances of
Salt Lake City, Utah, 1965, relating to sick leave authorized.
Be it ordained by the Board of Commissioners of Salt Lake City,
Utah:
SECTION 1. That Section 25-9-1 of the Revised Ordinances of Salt
Lake City, Utah, 1965, relating to sick leave authorized, be, and the
same hereby is amended as follows:
Sec. 25-9-1. Sick leave authorized. Each officer and full
time employee of Salt Lake City shall be entitled to 15 days
sick leave each calendar year, except members of the combat
division of the fire department who shall be entitled to 7 1/2
on-duty shifts of sick leave each calendar year. The foregoing
sick leave may be taken only if, and during the period that,
such officer or employee is prevented by illness from dis-
charging the duties required by his office or position of
employment as certified in writing by the city personnel
department nurse or by the licensed practicing physician
attending such officer or employee. No officer or full time
employee of Salt Lake City shall be entitled to the foregoing
sick leave if, under any circumstances whatever, he reports
for work at another place of employment during the 24 hour
period commencing at the start of the shift at which the
employee claims he was unable to work for Salt Lake City. Each
officer or full time employee of Salt Lake City who requests
sick leave or other leave with pay must make the request not
later than 15 minutes after the start of his work shift. No
officer or full time employee of Salt Lake City shall be
entitled to the foregoing sick leave until he has completed 6
months of continuous employment with Salt Lake City. Abuse of
this privilege shall be grounds for dismissal of said employee
or officer.
SECTION 2. This ordinance shall take effect 30 days after its
first publication.
Passed by the Board of Commissioners of Salt Lake City, Utah, this
