40 of 1980 - Adding section 25-5-3(9) providing for education incentive pay for City Fire Unit employees. ORDINANCE AN ORDINANCE AMENDING Section 25-5-3 of the Revised Ordinances of Salt Lake City, Utah, 1965, by adding a new subsection (9) thereto, relating to education incentive pay for City Fire Unit Employees. Be it ordained by the City Council of Salt Lake City, Utah: SECTION 1. That Section 25-5-3 of the Revised Ordinances of Salt Lake City, Utah, 1965, be, and the same hereby is amended by adding a new subsection (9) thereto, relating to education incentive pav for City Fire Unit Employees, to read as follows: Sec. 25-5-3(9). Education incentive pay for Fire Unit employees. Full-time, permanent employees of the Fire Unit, who have completed all required basic training courses and probationary periods, shall be entitled to the following monthly allowances according to the educational degree held by such employees: Doctorate 8100.00 per month Masters 75.00 per month Bachelors 50.00 per month Associate 25.00 per month An employee shall he eligible for incentive pay hereunder following submission of his or her diploma evidencing completion of degree requirements at a fully-accredited college or university to the fire chief. The foregoing notwithstanding, no employee shall he entitled to compensation under this subsection for an educational degree which qualifies the employee for his or her position of employment; or for any degree which is not snecifically related to the employee's actual employment duties as determined by the Mayor upon recommendation of the fire chief. For the purposes of this subsection, degrees in the following shall be presumed to be job related: Physical Sciences (1) Physics; (2) Engineering; (3) Chemistry; and (4) Mathematics Health (1) Pharmacy (2) Nursing (3) Medicine Law Public and Business Administration Social and Behavioral Sciences, except anthropology, geography and philosophy. IO Languages (1) English (2) Journalism (3) Mass Communications (4) Foreign Languages Fire Sciences SECTION 2. In the opinion of the City Council. of Salt Lake City, it is necessary to the peace, health and welfare of the inhabitants of Salt Lake City that this ordinance become effective immediately. SECTION 3. This ordinance shall take effect upon its first publication and shall be retroactive in effect to April 1, 1980.
