Result AN ORDINANCE
An ordinance providing for the establishment of municipal
markets, and for the control and gogernment of the same; and
repealing an ordinance upon the same subject, passed by the
Board of Commissioners April 4, 1917, and an ordinance
amending said last mentioned ordinance, passed May 7, 1917.
Be it ordained by the Board of Commissioners of Salt
Lake City, Utah:
SECTION 1. That an ordinance providing for the establishment
of one or more municipal markets, and for the control and govern-
ment of the same, passed by the Board of Commissioners April 4,
1917, and an ordinance amending certain sections of said last
mentioned ordinance, passed May 7, 1917, be, and the same are
hereby repealed.
SECTION 2. The Board of Commissioners may establish one
or more public markets, the location of which within the city
limits shall be determined from time to time by the Board of
Commissioners as conditions and the convenience and necessities
of the public may require.
SECTION 3. Said city market shall at all times during the
hours it shall remain open, be under the immediate supervision
and control of a market master. The office of market master is
hereby created, and shall be in the department to which the
Mayor is assigned. The market master
shall be appointed by the Board of Commissioners, and he shall
hold office during such time as the Board of Commissioners may
designate, being subject at all times to removal by the Board.
He shall receive a salary of not to exceed $125.00 per month.
The Board of Commissioners may employ such assistants to act
under the direction of the market master as may from time to
time be necessary, and provide for the payment of their salaries
in such sums as may be designated by the Board of Commissioners.
The market master shall furnish a bond in the sum of
$1,000.00, conditioned upon the faithful performance of his
duties and proper accounting of moneys.
SECTION 4. It shall be the duty of the market master to
attend the market on market days, to exercise general supervi-
sion over the market, and to enforce such rules and regulations
as may be established for the government of the same; to assign
places to wagons or persons supplying the market, and maintain
order among them; to see that all weights and measures used by
vendors are approved by the City Sealer of Weights and Measures,
having the same tested and sealed before vendor uses them; to
collect all rentals and make daily returns thereof to the City
Treasurer; to have oars and custody of all property and fixtures
of the market; to keep the market clean and in good order at all
times; to take all steps that may be neoessary to protect
purchasers from imposition, and to prevent the sale of unwhole-
some articles of food; and to perform such other duties as may
be imposed on him.
SECTION 5. All spaces in the market, and all those doing
business there as suppliers and vendors, shall be subject to
such rules and regulations as to supervision and management as
are provided by the Board of Commissioners, and such other rules
and regulations as may be found necessary and adopted by the

SECTION 6. The market master shall have power to arrest
any person who shall violate any regulations respecting the
public market; and it shall be unlawful for any person to resist,
hinder or obstruct such officer in the discharge of his duties,
or fail to obey his lawful orders.
SECTION 7. Any person violating any of the provisions of
this ordinance shall, upon conviction thereof, be punished by a
fine in any sum not exceeding Oa, ;or by.imprisonment in the
City Jail for a period not longer tlhan thirty days. The ..o Dort

in default of the payment of the,.fine, The defendant maybe
imprisoned in this city jail for a period not exceeding thirty
:days.
SECTION 8. In the opinion of the Board of Coac.issioners it
is necessary for the peace, health and safety of the City that
this ordinance becorne effective at once.
-i;CTION 9. This ordinance shall take effect upon its
first publication.
