Mr. Chairman '' AN ORDINANCE Result AN ORDINANCE AMENDING SECTIONS 187 and 189 (c) of the Traffic Code of Salt Lake City, Utah, 1955, relating to driving on the left side of roadways; and also amending Section 191 of the Traffic Code of Salt Lake City, Utah, 1955, relating to streets and highways divided into two separate roadways by a dividing section. Be it ordained by the Board of Commissioners of Salt Lake City, Utah: SECTION 1. That Sections 187 and 189 (c) of the Traffic Code of Salt Lake City, Utah, 1955, relating to driving on the left side of road- ways, and Section 191 of the Traffic Code of Salt Lake City, Utah, 1955, relating to streets and highways divided into two separate roadways by a dividing section, be, and the same hereby are, amended to read as follows: "Section 187. Driving on Left Side of Roadway. (a) No vehicle shall be driven along a highway to the left of the center of a two-way road- way under the following conditions: (1) When approaching the crest of a grade or upon a curve in the roadway where the driverrs view is obstructed within such distance as to create a hazard in the event another vehicle might approach from the opposite direction; (2) When approaching within 100 feet of or traversing any intersection or any railroad grade crossing; (3) Where the vim is obstructed upon approaching within 100 feet of any bridge, viaduct or tunnel; (4) Where a double center line is painted on the roadway. (b) The foregoing limitations shall not apply on a one-way road- way or where pavement markings or signs indicate otherwise. "Section 189. (c) Where a double center line is painted on the roadway no vehicle shall be driven along the street or highway to the left thereof. "Section 191. Streets or Highways Divided into Separate Roadways 117 2 by a Dividing Section. Definition of a Dividing Section. Duties of Drivers. (a) A dividing section shall divide a street or highway into two separate roadways and shall consist of: (1) An unpaved dividing area; or, (2) A physical barrier, curbs, or other clearly indicated dividing area so constructed as to impede vehicular traffic across the same; or, (3) A dividing area of over two feet in width defined by either: (A) A standard double line marking on each side of the dividing area, each double line marking consisting of two four-inch wide lines four inches apart, or, (B) Other marking, on each side of the dividing area of a type designated by the State Road Commission to indicate no driving along a highway to the left thereof. (b) Whenever a street or highway has been divided into two separate roadWys by a dividing section, it shall be unlawful to drive any vehicle upon any such street or highway except to the right of such dividing section, or to drive any vehicle over, upon, or across any such dividing section, or to make any left turn on any such divided street or highway, except through a plainly marked opening in such dividing section designated and intended by public authorities for the use of vehicles, unless signs indicate otherwise." SECTION 2. In the opinion of the Board of Commissioners of Salt Lake City, Utah, it is necessary to the peace, health and safety of the inhabitants of Salt Lake City that this adinance beceome effective immediately.
