Result �' AN ORDINANCE
An ordinance authorizing the arrest of professional thieves,
burglars, shop lifters, pickpockets and confidence men, and providing
for the punishment of the same.
Be it ordained by the Board of Commissioners of Salt rake City,
Utah:
SECTION 1. If any person shall be charged on oath in the City
Court with being a professional or habitual thief, burglar, shop
lifter, piokpoeket, swindler or oanfidenoe man, and he shall have
been arrested by any peace officer at any railroad depot, church,
banking institution, broker's office, place of public amusement,
auction room, fair ground, hotel, mercantile establishment, crowded
thoroughfare, or any other public place, and if it shall be proven
to the satisfaction of said court that he was frequenting or attend-
ing such place or places for an unlawful purpose, he shall be commit-
ted to the city jail for a period not to exceed ninety days, there
to be kept at hard labor; or,in the discretion of said court, he may
be required to enter security for his good behavior for a period not
exceeding six months.
SECTION 2. This ordinance shall take effect upon its first
publioation.
