AN ORDINANCE AMENDING Bill No. 42 of 1959, relating to City
Sales and Use Tax, by amending Sections 4 (a) (1) and 4 (b) (1),
relating to Sales Tax, and Sections 5 (a) and 5 (b) (1), relating
to Use Tax.
Be it ordained by the Board of Commissioners of Salt Lake City,
Utah:
SECTION 1. That Bill No. 42 of 1959, relating to City Sales
and Use Tax, be, and the same hereby is, amended by amending Sections
4 (a) (1) and 4 (b) (1),, relating'to sales tax, and Sections 5 (a) and
5 (b) (1), relating to use tax, to read as follows:
"Sec. 4. Sales Tax. (a) (1) From and after the opera-
tive date of this ordinance, there is levied and there shall
be collected and paid a tax upon every retail sale of tangible
personal property, services, and meals made within the city
at the rate of one-half of one per cent (%) of the purchase
price paid or charged in connection with such sale, as deter-
mined by the State of Utah in the imposition and collection of
the State sales tax.

"(b) (1) Except as hereinafter provided, and except insofar
as they are inconsistent with the provisions of the Uniform
Local Sales and Use Tax Law of Utah, all of the provisions of
Chapter 15, Title 59, Utah Code Annotated 1953, as amended and
in force and effect on July 1, 1963, insofar as they relate to
sales taxes, excepting Sections 59-15-1 and 59-15-21 thereof,
and excepting for the amount of the tax levied therein, are
hereby adopted and made a part of this ordinance as though
fully set forth herein."
"Sec. 5. Use Tax. (a) An excise tax is hereby imposed
upon the storage, use, or other consumption in this city of
tangible personal property purchased from any retailer for
storage, use or other consumption in the city at the rate of
one-half of one per cent of the purchase price paid or charged
in connection with the sale of said property as determined by
the State of Utah in imposing the State sales or use tax.

"(b) (1) Except as hereinafter provided, and except inso-
far as they are inconsistent with the provisions of said
Uniform Local Sales and Use Tax Law of Utah, all of the pro-
visions of Chapter 16, Title 59, Utah Code Annotated 1953,
as amended and in force and effect on July 1, 1963, applic-
able to use taxes, excepting the provisions of Section
59-16-1 and 59-16-25 thereof, and excepting for the amount
of the tax levied therein, are hereby adopted and made a
part of this section as though fully set forth herein."
SECTION 2. In the opinion of the Board of Commissioners, it is
necessary to the peace, health and safety of the inhabitants of Salt
Lake City, Utah, that this ordinance shall become effective immediately.
SECTION 3. This ordinance shall take effect upon its first
publication.
Passed by. the Board of Commissioners of Salt Lake City, Utah,
this 30th day of July, 1963.
