AN ORDINANCE AMENDING CHAPTER LIX, of the Revised Ordinances
of Salt Lake City, Utah, 1934, by adding in and to said Chapter a new
Section to be known and designated at Section 1426, relating to a
Traffic Commission and its powers and,duties.
Be it ordained by the Board of Commissioners of Salt Lake
City, Utah:
SECTION 1. That Chapter LIX, of the Revised Ordinances of
Salt Lake City, Utah, 1934, be and the same is hereby amended. by add-
ing in and to said Chapter a new section to be known and designated as
Section 1426, relating to a Traffic Commission and its powers and
duties, which shall read as follows:
SEC. 1426. TRAFFIC COMMISSION, CREATION OF. There is
hereby established in the Public Safety department a Traffic
Commission, to serve without compensation, consisting of the
Commissioner of Public Safety
' 212:r of Salt Lake City, who shall act as Chairman of said
commission, the City Attorney, City Engineer, Chief of Police
and such other persons interested in problems relating to the
regulation of motor uehi.cle traffic or representatives of un-
official bodies, as may be determined and appointed by the
Board of Commissioners upon the recommendation of the Mayor.
All of the members of said commission except the above named
city officers shall be appointed for a period and serve for a
term of one year.
It shall be the duty of the Traffic Commission and
to this end it shall have the authority to coordinate traffic
activities, to carry on educational activities in traffic mat-
ters, to supervise the preparation and publication of traffic
reports, to receive complaints having to do with traffic matters,
and to recommend to the Board of Commissioners of Salt Lake City
ways and means for improving traffic conditions and the ad-
ministration and enforcement of traffic regulations.
SECTION 2. In the opinion of the Board of Commissioners,
Iit is necessary to the health, peace and safety of the inhabitants
of Salt Lake City that this ordinance become effective immediately.
SECTION 3. This ordinance shall take effect upon its
first publication.
