AN ORDINANCE AlSiNDING SECTION 2097, Revised Ordinances
of Salt Lake City, Utah, 1920, relating to gasoline.
BE IT ORDAINED BY the Board of Commissioners of Salt
Lake City, Utah.
SECTION I. That Section 2097, Revised Ordinances of
Salt Lake City, 1920, relating to gasoline, be and the same is
hereby amended so as to read as follows:
SECTION 2097. (a) It shall be unlawful for any
person to sell or offer for sale within Salt Lake City, any
common gasoline which does not conform to the standard as
fixed by the United States Bureau of Mines as motor gasoline
and which does not conform to the following properties and
tests:
Color - Method 10.1. The color shall not be dark-
er than No. 16 Saybolt.
Corrosion test. - Method 530.21. A clean copper
strip shall not be discolored when submerged in the gasoline
for 3 hours at 122° F.
Distillation range. - Method 100.11. When the
first drop has been recovered in the graduated receiver,
the thermometer shall not read more than 55` C. (131' F.)
When 20 per cent has been recovered in the re-
ceiver, the thermometer shall not read more than 105' C.
(221° F.)
When 50 per cent has been recovered in the receiver,

the thermometer shall not read more than 140° C. (284° P.)
When 90 per cent has been recovered in the re-
ceiver, the thermometer shall not read more than 200° C.
(392° F.")
The end point shall not be higher than 225° C.
(437° F.)
At least 95 per cent shall be recovered as distil-
late in the receiver from the distillation.
All tests shall be made according to the method of
testing petroleum products adopted by the Interdepartmental
Petroleum Specifications Committee of the United States
Bureau of Mines.
(b) It shall be unlawful for any person to sell or
offer for sale within Salt Lake City any high test or specie.

The gasoline shall be free from undissolved water
and suspended matter.
Color water white.
Doctor test - Method 520.3. 'The doctor test shall
be negative.
Corrosion test - Method 530.21. a clean copper
strip shall not be discolored when submerged in the gasoline
for 3 hours at 122° F.
Distillation range . - Method 100.1. The tempera-
ture limits are as follows: Initial B. P. shall not exceed
40° 0/ (104°F.)
When 10 per cent of the sample has been recovered
in the graduated receiver, the thermometer shall not read
more than 65° C. (149°F.) or less than 50° C. (122° P.)
When 20 per cent of the sample has been recovered
in the graduated receiver, the thermometer shall not read
more than 85° C (185°F.)
When 50 per cent has been recovered in the reeeiv x,

the thermometer shall not read more than 115° C. (239°F).
Nhen 90 per cent has been recovered in the receive},
the thermometer shall not read more than 170° C. (338°F.)
The end point shall not be higher than 205° C.
(401°F.)
At least 96 per cent shall be recovered as distil-
late in the receiver from the distillation.
Acidity, - Method 510.2. Th residue remaining in
the flask after the distillation is completed shall not show
an sold reaction.
.ill tests shall be made according to the method
of testing petroleum products adopted by the I.nterdepartment 1
Petroleum Specifications Committee of the United States Bu-
reau of Mines.
(c) It shall be unlawful for any person to sell an
gasoline which has been adulterated by the addition or mix-
ture of naphtha or any distillate or other substance, withou
written notice to the purchaser of such adulteration.
SECTION 2. Any person violating any provision of this
ordinance shall be punished by fine in any sum not exceeding Two
Hundred Ninety-nine (:299.00) Dollars or by imprisonment in the
city jail not longer than six months or by both fine and imprison-
ment. The court may, in imposing the fine, enter as part of the
judgment that in default of the payment of the fine the defendant
may be imprisoned in the city jail for a period not exceeding six
months.
SECTION 3. This ordinance shall take effect thirty-one
'days after publication.
