AN ORDINANCE AMENDING CHAPTER 13 of Title 25 of the Revised
Ordinances of Salt Lake City, Utah, 1955, relating to social security and
retirement benefits for City employees, by adding thereto a new section to
be known as Section 4 of said chapter, relating to additional retirement
benefits and age limits for City employees other than those in the Classi-
fied Civil Service of the Fire and Police Departments.
Be it ordained by the Board of Commissioners of Salt Lake City,
Utah:
SECTION 1 . That Chapter 13 of Title 25 of the Revised Ordinances
of Salt Lake City, Utah, 1955, relating to social security and retirement
benefits for City employees, be, and the same hereby is, amended by adding
thereto a new section to be known as Section 4 of said chapter relating
to additional retirement benefits and age limits for City employees other
than those in the Classified Civil Service of the Fire and Police Depart-
ments, said section to read as follows:
"Sec. 25-13-4. Retirement benefits In addition to Social
Security and Age Limit of Employees. Any officeror employee
entitle. to retirement benefits under the preceding section of
this title, including those provided for under the Federal Social
Security Act, shall be entitled to a retirement benefit in
addition thereto as follows: Any officer or employee who has
been in the employ of Salt Lake .City for a period of twenty (20)
years, or longer, whether continuous or not, may, upon reaching
the age of 60 years,at the option of the Board of Commissioners,
or upon reaching the age of 65 years, at his own option, or any
' officer or employee who has been employed by Salt Lake City for
thirty (30) years, or longer, whether continuous or not, may, upon
reaching the age of 60 years, at his own request, or any officer
or employee who has been employed by Salt Lake City for a period
of ten (10) years, or longer, whether continuous or not, upon
reaching the age of 70 years, shall, except upon written application
to, and approval of, the Commissioner of the department in which
such officer or employee Is employed, together with the approval of
the Board of Commissioners upon good cause being shown therefor to the
contrary, be retired from active service and receive a,mon,thly pen-
sion for the remainder of his life in an amount of $ 67e 5
per month, which shall be paid from monies made available for that
purpose by Salt Lake City. No officer or employee shall be retained
in the employ of Salt Lake City after reaching the age of seventy
(70) years, except upon written application to, and approval of, the
Commissioner of the department in which such officer or employee is
employed, together with the approval of the Board of Commissioners
upon good cause being shown therefor to the contrary. No written
application for exemption under this section shall be considered by

the Board of Commissioners unless such application has been filed
with the City Recorder prior to the date upon which the applicant
would otherwise be retired or discharged hereunder. All officers
or employees who, upon the effective date of this section or
within thirty (30) days thereafter, shall be subject to retire-
ment or discharge as herein provided, may file an application for
exemption therefrom within thirty (30) days from the effective
date of this section. This section shall not apply to City
employees In the Classified Civii Service of the Fire and Police
Departments, nor to temporary or seasonal employees."
SECTION 2. The monthly pensions provided by this section shall
be effective and payable from and after the /- day of //0' i /
1960.
SECTION 3. in the opinion of the Board of Commissioners, it is
necessary to the peace, health and safety of the inhabitants of Salt Lake
City, Utah, that this ordinance shall becomd effective immediately.
SECTION 4. This ordinance shall take effect upon its first
publication.
