Be it ordained by the Board of Commission of Salt Lake City, Utah: SECTION 1. That Chapter 1 of Title 31 of the Revised Ordinances of Salt Lake City, Utah, 1965, relating to the Power and Heating Division be, and the same hereby is, amended to read as follows: CHAPTER 1 DIVISION CREATED. DUTIES AND DESIGNATIONS Sections: 31-1-1. Power and heating division created. 31-1-2. Duty of division. 31-1-3. Appointment of Chief Inspector Qualifications. 31-1-4. Assistants. 31-1-5. Designation of Code. Sec. 31-1-1. Power and heating division created. There is hereby created in the department of streets and public improvements a division to be known as the Salt Lake City power and heating division which shall be under the general direction of the chief inspector as provided for in this title. Sec. 31-1-2. Duty of division. It shall be the duty and function of the Salt Lake City power and heating division to enforce the provisions of this title and the Uniform Mechanical Code adopted as Volume II of the Uniform Building Code by Section 5-1-1 of these Revised Ordinances. Sec. 31-1-3. Appointment of Chief Inspector. Qualifications. The Chief Inspector of the power and heating division shall be appointed by the board of commissioners of Salt Lake City upon the recommendation of the City Engineer. The person to fill the office of chief of the Power and Heating Division shall be of good moral character, shall be possessed of such executive ability as is requisite for the performance of his duties and shall have thorough knowledge of the standard materials and methods used in the installa- tion of mechanical equipment; shall be well versed in approved methods of construction for safety to persons and property, the statutes of the State of Utah relating to mechanical equipment work and any orders, rules, and regulations issued by authority thereof. He shall have a thorough knowledge of the Uniform Mechanical Code and the Uniform Building Code in relation to mechanical equipment, as adopted and approved by the Salt Lake City Board of Commissioners. He shall be familiar with the laws and regulations of the State of Utah and Salt Lake City Corporation pertaining to such work, and a1 -2- shall have had at least five years' experience above apprentice grade as a mechanical equipment inspector, or in the installation of mechanical equipment, or in lieu of such experience, shall be a graduate in mechanical engineering of an accredited college or university and shall have had two years' practical mechanical equipment installation experience. Sec. 31-1-4. Assistants. The chief inspector shall be furnished with such assistants and staff as the Board of Commissioners of Salt Lake City, in its discretion, shall determine to be necessary to perform the functions, operations, record keeping and accounting of the power and heating division. Sec. 31-1-5. Designation of code. Chapters 1 through 15 of this title shall be known as the Power and Heating Code. SECTION 2. In the opinion of the Board of Commissioners it is necessary to the peace, health and welfare of the inhabitants of Salt Lake City that this ordinance become effective immediately. SECTION 3.
