AN ORDINANCE
An ordinance amending and re-enacting Section 585 of the Re-
vised Ordinances of Salt Lake City of 1903, as amended by an ordi-
nance passed the 9th day of April, 1912, establishing a standard
of weights for the sale of commodities, and fixing a standard of
measures for certain commodities.
Be it ordained by the Board of Commissioners of Salt Lake
, City, Utah:

SECTION 1. That Section 585 of the Revised Ordinances of
Salt Lake City, Utah, of 1903, as amended by an ordinance passed
on the 9th day of April, 1912, be, and the same is hereby amended
and rerenacted so as to read as follows:
585. There is hereby established within Salt Lake City,
a standard of weights for the sale of all commodities, and it!
shall be unlawful for any person, firm, association or corpo-
ration to sell or offer for sale in this city any commodity
which is not in conformity as to weight with such standard.
When any oommodity is purchased or sold by the ton, pound,
half-pound or quarter-pound, each ton, pound, half-pound or 1
quarter pound shall contain respectively the following number
of pounds and ounces avoirdupois weight, and grains Troy
weight:
A tom shall consist of 2,000 pounds, avoirdupois weight;'
a pound shall consist of 16 ounces avoirdupois weight, or
7,000 grains Troy weight; a half-bound shall consist of 8 eunies

avoirdupois weight, or 3,500 grains Troy weight; and a quarter-
1 pound shall consist of four ounces avoirdupois weight, or
1,750 grains Troy weight.
It shall be unlawful for any person, firm, association
or corporation to sell or offer for sale in this city, fruits
or vegetables in bulk or loose packages, otherwise than by
weight.

Apples may be sold by the box provided they are tiered
and packed in standard boxes of not less than the following
dimensions: 113 inches wide, 1
,1 inches deep, 18w inches long,;
containing not less than oubio inches.
Strawberries, raspberries, dewberries, blackberries and i t
logan berries shall be packed in what are commonly known as
ten ounce cups, containing not less than 23i cubic inches, or '
in what are known as one pound cups, containing not less than
42i oubio inches; provided, that raspberries may be sold in
smaller receptacles prior to and including the date of June
15th in each year.
Ij Oranges, lemons, grape fruit and peaches shall be sold by,
count. All peaches packed in boxes for the market shall have
the total count of the box plainly marked on the outside of
each box.
Concord grapes may be sold by the basket, and each basket
with its contents must weigh not less than seven pounds.
Bunch goods, such as lettuce, carrots, beets, radishes,
green onions, asparagus, bananas, etc. shall be sold by count.'
It shall be unlawful to use berry cups a second time as
receptacles for fruit or vegetables, or to use unclean or un-
sanitary crates, boxes or sacks.
It shall be unlawful for any person, firm, association or
corporation to sell or offer for sale in Salt Lake City coal
by the sank or bag, or hay by the bale without having the net :
weight of said coal or hay stamped, printed or written on a
tag attached to said sack or bag containing coal, or attached
to said bale of hay.
It shall be unlawful for any person, firm, association or
oorporation to refuse to weigh any package or receptacle con- '
taining any article or property herein referred to, sold, .

SECTION 2. This ordinance shall take effect one day after
