Result AN ORDINANCE
An ordinance amending Chapter 41 of the Revised Ordinances of
Salt Lake City, 1913, relating to the police department, by amending
Section 957 of said Chapter and by creating a new section in said
Chapter to be known as Section 962x.
Be it ordained by the Board of Commissioners of Salt Lake
City, Utah:
SECTION 1. That Section 957 of Chapter 41, Revised. Ordinances
of Salt Lake City, 1913, relating to special police officers, be, and
the same is hereby amended so as to read as follows:
Sec. 967. Special Police Officers. The chief of police,
with the advice and consent of the board of commissioners, may
at any time appoint special patrolmen to serve without pay from
the city; said appointments to be made for a period not to exceed
one year from date thereof,and subject to revocation and removal
priior thereto, as herein provided.
The City Rec r er shall issue to,each speo.ial_0o i e-.officer se_appointed
\� certificate of appointment/ pall designate whether the
appointee is authorised to act as such special patrolman through- ,
out the city or at a particular place therein, and if at any
particular place, the place shall be designated in suoh certif4-
cate. The city recorder shall keep a book containing the names
of such appointees, the date of appointment and the date of
expiration of said appointment.
The chief of police shall exercise general supervision over
such special police officers, and he may, with the consent of
the board of commissioners, at any time remove such officers and
revoke the police powers conferred upon say special police officer
before the period for which he was appointed has expired, without
chargers being preferred and without trial, hearing or opportunity
to be heard, whenever in their opinion the good of the service will
and revocation
be subserved thereby, and such removal/of authority shall be final
and conclusive.
SECTION 2. That.,Chapter 41 of the Revised Ordinances of Salt
Lake City, 1913, relating to the police department, be, and the same
is, hereby amended by creating a new section within said Chapter, to
be known as Section 962x, which shall read as follows;
Sec. 962t. It shall be the duty of the chief of police to
safely keep all lost or stolen property that comes into possession
of the police department or any of its members, and he shall make
all reasonable effort to discover the owners thereof and restore
said property to such owners. He shall not be obliged to keep said
property longer than a period of one year; and if the owner of such
property shall not be found within the period of one year, the chief
shall
of policeWandicadvertise for at least -ten days in a newspaper of
general circulation in Salt Lake Cit1, the sale of such property,
and may on the date specified in such advertisement, offer to the
public at private or public sale all such property which has been
in his possession for a year or more prior to such date, and may
sell the same for the highest and best price obtainable.

er of the articles sold and the amount of money received by him for
same at any such sale, and the moneys received at such sale shall
