AN ORDINANCE AMENDING SECTIONS 530 and 531 of the Revised
Ordinances of Salt Lake Fity, Utah, 1934, relating to the fire de-
partment.
Be it ordained-by the Board of Commissioners of Salt Lake
City, Utah:
SECTION L. .That'Sections 530 and 531 of the Revised Ordi-
nances of Salt LakesCity, Utah, 1934, relating to the fire department,
be and the same ere--hemeby amended to read as follows:
SEC. 530. ORGANIZATION AND SALARIES. The fire depart-
ment of Salt Lake City shall consist of the following officers,
whose salaries shall be as fixed by the board of commissioners
with the limits specified as follows:
Not to exceed.
Chief of Department $3,600.00
Assistant Chief 2,760.00
2 Battalion chiefs 2,580:00
Superintendent of fire and
police alarm + ,00
Captains- 2,280.00v
Lieutenants 2,160.00!
Secretary 2,160.00v,
Firemen of first grade 1,980.00✓
Firemen of second grade 1,860.00'
Firemen of third grade 1,740.00
Alarm Operators, first grade . 1,980.00-

Inspectors, deputy fire marshals, master mechanic
and firemen mechanics shall be graded as captains, 1fIeutenants
or firemen of the first, second and third grade.
SEC. 531. ASSIGNMENTS. The chief of the fire depart-
may assign any subordinate officer in the department to any
duty which in his judgment the good of the service requires
and may change such assignment from time to time whenever in
his judgment the good of the service requires.
Whenever assignments are intended for a period of

11 thirty days or more, the chief of the fire department shall
11 report to the board of commissioners the names of such firemen:
as are assigned by him to the following services, to-wit:
1 Master mechanic and firemen mechanics. Copies of such assign-„
1 ment shall be filed with the city auditor and secretary of the
l civil service commission.

Firemen while acting in the following capacities j
under assignment for thirty days or more shall be entitled to
I� compensation in addition to regular compensation as firemen,
to be determined by the board of commissioners, and not to
Iexceed the following:

Master mechanics $55.00 per month

11 Firemen mechanics 10.00 per month./

j SECTION 2. In the opinion of the -Board of Commissioners,

lit is necessary to the peace, health and safety of the inhabitants

jof Salt Lake City that this ordinance shall take effect immediately;.

SECTION 3. This ordinance shall take effect at once upon
its first publication.
