Dear Sir:-
In the matter of Bill posting and sign boards, which is Section
516 of the Ordinances of 1913, I have discovered several matters in this
one section which seem to conflict, and also to conflict with other
provisions of the ordinances, and with a view of straightening out that
section, I have drawn with the assistance of the Building Inspector, an
ordinance amending that section to make it conform with itself and with , ?
other provisions of the ordinances, and I herewith submit the same to
you.

AN ORDINANCE .
An ordinance amending Section 516 of the Revised Ordinances
of Salt Lake City of 1913, in regard to bill boards, sign
boards and roof signs.
Be it ordained by the Board of Commissioners of Salt Lake
City, Utah:
SECTION 1. That Section 516 of the Revised Ordinances
of Salt Lake City of 1913, in regard to bill boards, sign
boards and roof signs, be, and the same is hereby amended so
as to read as follows:
SECTION 516. It shall be unlawful to erect, construct
or maintain within the corporate limits of Salt Lake
City, any sign board, bill board, roof sign or other
structure of the height of seven feet or more, used or
intended to be used for advertising purposes, without
first obtaining a permit therefor from the building
inspector of said pity. It shall be unlawful to erect,
construct or to hereafter maintain within fifteen (15)
feet of the property line of any street or sidewalk, any'
bill board of(other structure over seven feet high, used
or intended to be used for advertising purposes, nor
shell such board or structure be erected or maintained
over twelve (12) feet high, and shall be fastened to and
supported by posts not less than 4 x 6 inches in dimension ,
set at least three (3) feet in the ground, and not further
apart than seven (7) feet, and shall be securely braced.

degrees to said post, and securely fastened to or above
the middle of said post, the other end securely fastened,
And it shall be unlawful to erect or maintain any such
sign board, bill board or other structure herein men-
tioned, without leaving an open space of not less thafj :,

(2) feet, measured from the surface of the around
vertically to the lowest point of said sign board, bill
board or other structure. All posts and braces used in
the construction of said bill boards or sign boards,
shall be of sound Oregon fir, or of equally strong and
durable material; provided, however, that nothing in this
ordinance shall be construed to require a permit for the
erection of, or advertising on fences, sides of buildings
or temporary structures, the same being less than seven
feet high. Roof signs or sign boards attached to V1'
placed upon the roofs of buildings shall be made, of iron,
attached to metal frames with iron uprights thoroughly •
secured to the building by irnn or metal anchors, bolts,
staple supports, ohains, guys or braces. And the foot-
ings of the same shall be angle iron with flanges not
less than two (2) inches wide, and there shall be a walk'
all around said sign or board not less than four (4) feet
in the clear, and such walk must be six (6) feet in the ,
clear from roof to under side of such sign or board.
No permit shall be issued to any such person, firm
or corporation to construct or erect any bill or sign !
board or other structure used, or intended to be used for
advertising purposes, within fifteen (15) feet of any
sidewalk, street, alley or way of said city, or to oon- ,
struct or erect any roof sign, unless such person, firm
1 or corporation applying for such permit shall first make,
exeoute and deliver to said Salt Lake City, a bond in the
sum of five thousand (55,000.00) dollars, with sureties
to be approved by the Board of Commissioners of said city,
conditioned to the effect that said person, firm or oor
poration shall save the city harmless from any and all

collapse or fall of any bill board or sign board con-

or corporation, or by reason of the lack of repair of the
same; provided, however, that this ordinance shall not be
construed to require a separate bond for each permit; but
