Christensen . . . r Nicholes Romney . . . . • Mr.Chairman AN ORDINANCE Result AN ORDINANCE AMENDING SECTION 2507 of the REVISED ORDINANCES OF SALT LAKE CITY, UTAH, 1944, relating to regulations governing electrical installations. Be it ordained by the Board of Commissioners of Salt Lake City, Utah. SECTION I. That Section 2507 of the Revised Ordinances of Salt Lake City, 1944, relating to regulations governing electrical installations, be and the same is hereby amended to read as follows: "Section 2507. Regulations. Item 1. EMERGENCY LIGHTING. (a) An emergency lighting system approved by the National Electrical Code, hereinafter referred to, shall be provided in all enclosed gathering ' places as required by the Salt Lake City Uniform Building Code and the - Salt Lake City Fire Department Ordinances. Such system to automatically - operate to illuminate the exits, aisles and corridors or assembly areas in the event of failure of regularly furnished power. The emergency system , shall comply with the operation requirements of the Fire Department and shall be inspected for operation each six months by the Chief of the Division of Electrical Inspection or by the Fire Marshal or both. Item 2. PLAN OF WIRING. (a) Any person desiring a permit to install electric wiring con- sisting of more than six (6) lighting circuits, of 20 amps each, or more than two (2) ranges, must provide a sketch or print showing in detail the proposed method of installing wiring and equipment. Plans or prints furnished may be rejected if not certified. Item 3. RECEPTACLES. (a) Appliance outlets hereafter installed in dwelling occupancies and located less than seven (7) feet above the floor line must be equipped' with approved receptacles of a type which has no electrical current-carrying V -2- part: exposed when appliance is not connected. 1 (b) In every kitchen, dining room, living room, parlor, hallway, - - libr.ry, den, sun room, recreation, and bedroom dwelling type occupancie. I one eceptacle outlet shall be provided for every 12 linear feet or frac tion thereof of the total (gross) distance around the room as measured along, the wall at the floor line. - Item 4. SERVICE ENTRANCE. (a) Service head for overhead service entrance shall be located at fist point of attachment of service drop to the building. Service entrance conductors shall be in rigid conduits, electrical metallic tubi _ or a proved metal raceway. (b6 For single family dwellings of 500 sq. ft. to 1500 sq. ft. a ea, the ervice entrance conductors shall be rated at not less than 95 amperes and ;hall be installed in a raceway of one and one-quarter inch minimum using an approved 100 ampere meter socket and for single family dwelling. of Oder 1500 sq. ft. area,the service entrance conductors shall be rated at n t less than 110 amperes and shall be installed in a raceway of one and Ine-half inch minimum using an approved 200 ampere meter socket. Th, load center shall have mains as large as the service entrance conductors Item 5. BRANCH CIRCUITS. (a) A branch circuit terminating in an approved receptacle shall be installed for an electric range. (b) For the appliance load in the kitchen, laundry, pantry, dini g . room and breakfast room of dwelling occupancies, two or more 20 ampere brans: circuits shall be provided for all receptacle outlets (other than outlts for clocks) in these rooms, and such circuits shall have no othe outl)ts. (c) Facilities for at least two spare circuits with a minimum of , 20 ampere capacity each on the load center shall be provided in dwelling occu1Rancy, for future use of appliances, etc." SECTION 2. In the opinion of the Board of Conmisseners, it is nece sary to the peace, health and safety of the inhabitants of Salt Lak- i I -3- I C- C:it hat this ordinance shall become effective immediately; therefore, 1 Y 1 this .rdinance shall b ecome effective upon its first publication.
