AN ORDINANCE AMENDING CHAPTER 17A OF TITLE 51 OF THE REVISED
ORDINANCES OF SALT LAKE CITY, UTAH, 1965, RELATING TO THE RESI-
DENTIAL "R-5A" DISTRICT BY ADDING A NEW SECTION 51-17A-10 REQUIR-
ING A PUBLIC HEARING FOR MULTIPLE-FAMILY DWELLINGS ON SITES ONE
ACRE OR LARGER OR CONTAINING TEN UNITS OR MORE.
WHEREAS, the City Council of Salt Lake City, Utah, finds
that the proposed construction of multiple-family dwellings
which: (1) are located on sites of one acre or larger; or (2)
contain ten (10) or more units, as authorized under the
Residential "R-5A" District, have potential to significantly
impact neighborhoods. Therefore, the City Council here concludes
that such uses should be granted only after a public hearing
before the Board of Adjustment where said Board finds that said
project shall not adversely affect neighboring properties.
NOW, THEREFORE, Be it ordained by the City Council of Salt
Lake City, Utah:
SECTION 1. That Chapter 17A of Title 51 of the Revised
Ordinances of Salt Lake City, Utah, 1965, as amended, relating to
uses within a Residential "R-5A" District, be, and the same
hereby is amended by ADDING a new Section 51-17A-10, which
relates to a requirement of a public hearing before the Board of
Adjustment, for multiple family dwelling units exceeding one acre
sites or ten units, which shall read as follows:
Sec. 51-17A-10. Multiple-family dwellings on sites one acre
or larger, and multiple-family dwellings containing ten or more
units. Where not otherwise authorized by this Title, the Board
of Adjustment may permit the use of land in a Residential "R-SA"
District for multiple-family dwellings on sites one (1 ) acre or
larger and multiple-family dwellings containing ten (10) units or
more. Approval of such development shall be granted only pur-
suant to a public hearing before the Board of Adjustment upon the

proposed development. Notice of the time and place of such
hearing shall be published as specified in Section 51-3-6. Such
development shall be approved by the Board of Adjustment when it
is shown that the property is of sufficient size and the design
of the development is such that it will not adversely affect
neighboring properties, and when the Board of Adjustment finds
that the development is in accord with the purpose, intent and
provisions of this chapter.
SECTION 2. In the opinion of the City Council of Salt Lake
City it is imperative to the welfare and best interests of the
City that said ordinance become effective immediately upon
publication.
SECTION 3. This ordinance shall take effect upon the date
of its first publication.
