AN ORDINANCE AMENDING Sections 51-2-51, 51-7-1, 51-7-5 and 51-7-6, of the Revised Ordinances of Salt Lake City, Utah, 1966, relating to Definition of Ground Sign and to General Sign Provisions. Be it ordained by the Board of Commissioners of Salt Lake City, Utah: SECTION 1. That Section 51-2-51, relating to Definition of Ground Sign, and Sections 51-7-1, 51-7-5, and 51-7-6, relating to General Sign Provisions, of the Revised Ordinances of Salt Lake City, Utah, 1965, be, and the same hereby are, amended to read as follows: "Section 51-2-51. Sign, ground. 'Ground Sign' shall mean a sign supported by a fixed permanent frame or support in the ground." "Section 51-7-1. Permits. No sign shall be erected, re- erected, located, relocated or enlarged until the plan for such sign has been approved and a permit issued by the build- ing inspector, except that name plates, and property signs (service signs and temporary signs) conforming to the pro- visions of this title may be erected without such approval or permit." "Section 51-7-5. Signs on Public Property. No ground sign shall be located or erected on publicly owned land, inside street rights-of-way(s) or otherwise, except signs owned and erected by a public agency or erected by per- mission of an authorized public agency and no projecting sign shall project nearer the curb than two feet." "Section 51-7-6. Prohibited Signs. No sign, handbill, poster, advertisement, or notice of any kind or sort, whether political or otherwise, shall be fastened, placed, posted, painted or attached in any way in or upon any curb- stone, lamp post, telephone pole, telegraph pole, electric light or power pole, hydrant, bridge, tree, rock, sidewalk, or street, except signs owned and erected by a public agency or erected by permission of an authorized public agency or required by law. No animated sign shall be located or erected in any resiential or business "B-3" district. Any sign not properly located in a fixed position on the pro- perty is prohibited." SECTION 2. In the opinion of the Board of Commissioners of Salt Lake City it is necessary to the peace, health and welfare of the inhabitants of Salt Lake City that this ordinance become effective immediately. 61 -2- SECTION 3. This ordinance shall take effect upon its first publication.
