Gr r .r f f all Phillips ✓ Result AN ORDINANCE , 1 ''0,v AN ORDINANCE AMENDING Title 51 of the Revised Ordinances of Salt Lake City, Utah, 1965, as amended, relating to Historic District and Landmark sites by ADDING Section 51-32-2 (5) providing for the adoption of an Exchange Place Historic District. Be it ordained by the Board of Commissioners of Salt Lake City, Utah: SECTION 1. It is the purpose of this ordinance to recognize the existence within the downtown commercial area of Salt Lake City where within a very concentrated proximity there exists a number of historically and architectually significant buildings reflecting the growth of Salt Lake City as the business center of the Inter- mountain West. Within the Exchange Place Historical District exist nine outstanding structures which have been deeply rooted in the growth and development of this City, the State and the region which have been determined to be historically significant and many of which have been qualified or which do qualify for placement on historical registers. It is the intent of this ordinance not only to encourage preservation of these outstanding structures as a reflection of our heritage but also to encourage the redevelopment and renovation of these buildings and district for the enhance- ment and revitalization of Salt Lake City. That Section 51-32-2 of the Revised Ordinances of Salt Lake City, Utah, relating to historic districts and landmark sites be, and the same is hereby amended by ADDING new subsection (5) providing for an exchange place historic district. Sec. 51-32-2. Historic Districts and Landmark Sites. The following are hereby adopted and designated as Historic Districts or Landmark Sites: (1) South Temple Historical District. * * * (2) Landmark sites on official registers. * * * 61. (3) Avenues Historical District. * * * (4) City Landmark Sites. * * * (5) The Exchange Place Historic District. The Exchange Place Historic District shall include the designated struc- tures and the area contained within the below described boundaries: Designated Structures Include: The Salt Lake Stock and Mining Exchange; Commercial Club; Grand Hotel; New House Hotel; Federal Building/Post Office; New House Building; Boston Building; Felt Building; and Judge Building. Boundaries of District: Said structures and district being further described as follows: Commencing at the northwest corner of Exchange Place and State Street and thence running west 290 feet along the north line of Exchange Place; thence north 85 feet; thence west 80 feet; thence south 85 feet to the north line of Exchange Place; thence west 138 feet along the north line of Exchange Place; thence north 146 feet; thence west 155 feet more or less to the east line of Main Street; thence north 165 feet along the east line of Main Street; thence east 148.5 feet; thence north 100.9 feet more or less to the south line of 300 South Street; thence west 173 feet to the east curb line of Main Street; thence south 363 feet along the east curb line of Main Street; thence west 318 feet more or less to a point being 210 feet west from the west line of Main Street along the south line of Post Office Place; thence south 132 feet; thence west 21 feet along the north line of Lot 1, Block 51, Plat A, SLC Survey; thence south 165 feet to the north line of 400 South Street; thence east 84 feet along the north line of 400 South Street; thence south 287.5 feet, said point being 155.5 feet south from the south line of 400 South Street; thence east 145 feet more or less to the west line of Main Street; thence north 287.5 feet more or less along the west line of Main Street to the northwest corner of 400 South and Main Streets; thence east 301 feet more or less, said point being 165 feet east of the east line of Main Street along 400 South Street; thence north 122 feet along the east line of Lot 4, Block 52, Plat A, SLC Survey; thence east 57 feet; thence south 53 feet; thence east 75 feet more or less to the west line of Cactus Street; thence north 109 feet along the west line of Cactus Street to the South line of Exchange Place; thence east 365 feet along the south line of Exchange Place to the west line of State Street; thence north 66 feet along the west line of State Street to the point of beginning.
