AN ORDINANCE AMENDING Section 25-5-1 of the Revised
Ordinances of Salt Lake City, Utah, 1965, relating to Longevity
pay for Salt Lake City employees.
Be it ordained by the Board of Commissioners of Salt Lake
City, Utah:
SECTION 1. That Section 25-5-1 of the Revised Ordinances of
Salt Lake City, Utah, 1965, relating to Longevity pay for Salt
Lake City employees, be, and the same hereby is amended as
follows:
Sec. 25-5-1. Longevity pay. In addition to the salaries
herein provided, qualifying officers and employees of the
City shall receive longevity benefits as follows:
(a) Fire Fighters First Grade, Communications Special-
ists First Grade, and Life/Fire Safety Inspectors First
Grade in the Fire Unit of the City who have completed
nine (9) consecutive full years of employment with the
Fire Department shall after their tenth anniversary date,
advance to pay class 457 as specified under Section
25-4-3 of these ordinances.
(b) Employees specified in subsection (a) of this sec-
tion who have completed fourteen (14) consecutive full
years of employment with the Fire Department shall, after
their fifteenth anniversary date, advance to pay class
458 as specified under section 25-4-3 of these ordi-
nances.
(c) Fire Dispatchers, Senior Fire Dispatchers and Fire
Clerks in the Fire Unit of the City who have completed
fourteen (14) consecutive full years of employment within
the Fire Department shall after their fifteenth
anniversary date, advance to the longevity step specified
for such employees under Section 25-4-3 of these
ordinances.
(d) All officers and employees of the City (other than
those employed within the Fire Unit) who have completed
fourteen (14) consecutive full years of employment with
the City, shall after their fifteenth anniversary date,
receive a monthly longevity benefit in the sum of $61.50
per month. The years of employment specified hereunder
shall not be required to be consecutive for receipt of
this longevity benefit by employees of the Clerical Unit,
if such employee's absence from service was due to invol-

untary termination following five (5) years or more of
consecutive employment with the City and the employee was
re-employed by the City within twenty-four (24) months of
such termination.
SECTION 2. In the opinion of the Board of Commissioners of
Salt Lake City, Utah, it is necessary to the peace, health and
welfare of the inhabitants of Salt Lake City that this ordinance
become effective immediately.
SECTION 3. This ordinance shall take effect upon its first
publication, and shall be retroactive in effect to April 1, 1979.
Passed by the Board of Commissioners of Salt Lake City,
