AN ORDINANCE
An ordinance amending Section 40 of Chapter 5 of the Revised
Ordinances of Salt Lake City of 1913, relating to appointments
and salaries in the Board of Health, as amended by an ordinance
passed by the Board of Commissioners February 19, 1918, and
Section 41 of said chapter, and repealing Section 41x. of an
ordinance passed by the Board of Commissioners March 13, 1916.
Be it ordained by the Board of Commissioners of Salt Lake
City, Utah:
SECTION 1. That Section 40 of Chapter 5 of the Revised
Ordinances of Salt Lake City of 1913, relating to appointments
and salaries in the Board of Health, as amended by an ordinance
passed by the Board of Commissioners February 19, 1918, and
Section 41 of said chapter be, and the same are hereby amended
so as to read as follows:
SECTION 4O. APPOINTMENTS. The Board of Commissioners

who shall receive annual salaries,
payable monthly, not exceeding the amounts as follows:
Health Commissioner 43,000.00
First Assistant Health Commissioner 1,620.00
Second Assistant Health Commissioner 1,620.00
The Health Commissioner and :assistant Health Commis-
sioners shall each receive the sum of 425.00 per month for
transportation and e;cper t.
Bacteriologist :1,500.00
Chief Sanitary Inspector 1,800.00
Chief Veterinary Inspector 1,800.00
Chief Dairy Inspector 1,800.00
Sealer of Weights and Measures 1,800.00
Chief Nurse 1,500.00
Registrar of Vital Statistics 1,320.00
First grade inspectors, each 41,440.00;
Second grade inspectors, each 1,320.00
Third grade inspectors, each 1,200.00
Fourth grade inspectors, each 1,080.00
SECTION 41. INSPECTORS. There shall bets ir' y-two "
inspectors in said department, divided into four grades as
follows: First, second, third and fourth grades.
Inspectors without previous experience shall be appoint-
ed to the fourth grade only. Inspectors of the third grade
must have served at least six months in the fourth grade, or
a year or more in the health department service elsewhere.
Inspectors of the second grade must have served at least
one year in the third and fourth grades, or two years or
more in the health department service elsewhere. Inspectors
of the first grade must have served two years or more in
the health department =ram, or possess special qualifica-
tions for health department service to be determined by the
Board of Health.
All applicants for the position of inspector or for
advancement in the service shall successfully pass such
examination, or possess such qualifications as may be required
by the Board of Health.
SECTION 2. That Section 41x of an ordinance passed bz the
Board of Commissioners March 13, 1916, be and the same is hereby
repealed.
SECTION 3. In the opinion of the Board of Commissioners
it is necessary to the peace, health and safety of the City

that this ordinance become effective immediately.
SECTION 4. This ordinance shall take effect August 1, 1916.
