Green it Neslen ()CV:Nj, (1)/ . %U\ Scheid Mr. Chairman Result AN ORDINANCE An ordinance amending Section 950 of Chapter 41 of the Revised Ordinances of Salt Lake City of 1913, as amended by an ordinance passed by the Board of Commissioners April 11, 1918, and Section 960 of said chapter, as amended by an ordinance passed by said Board of Commissioners July 31, 1917, relating to the Police Department. Be it ordained by the Board of Commissioners of Salt Lake City, Utah: SECTION 1. That Section 950 of Chapter 41 of the Revised Ordinances of Salt Lake City of 1913, as amended by an ordinance passed by the Board of Commissioners April 11, 1918, and Section 960 of said chapter, as amended by an ordinance passed by said Board of Commissioners July 31, 1917, relating to the Police Department, be, a n d the same are hereby amended so as to read as follows: SECTION 950. POLICE DEPARTbtENT. SALARIES. The Police Department of Salt Lake City shall consist of the following officers whose annual salaries shall be not to exceed the amounts stated: Chief of Police who shall be head of the Police Department $3,300.00 Inspector with rank of senior captain 2,280.00 Chief of Detectives who shall report directly to the Chief of Police 2,280.00 *etrser Captain 1,740.00 • ?,h-1_ 4 A Junior Captain $1,740.00 Two Lieutenants, eaoh 1,680.00 Seven Sergeants, each 1,560.00 Superintendent of Identification Bureau 1,740.00, Secretary to Chief 1,620.00 Chief Clerk 1,620.00 Property Clerk 1,440.00 Six Detective Sergeants, each 1,740.00 Patrolmen of the first grade, each 1,440.00 . Patrolmen of the second grade, each Patrolmen of the third grade, each 1,200.00 '.;c Sergeant-at-Arms 1,020.00, Matron 600. tt Jailers, patrol drivers, motorcycle patrolmen, mounted I policemen and members of the anti-vice squad shall be graded as patrolmen of the first, second and third grades. The Board of Commissioners may employ such other officers or employees as it may deem necessary for the proper conduct of said department, at such salaries as may be designated by said Board. SECTION 960. PATROLMEN. Patrolmen without previous experience shall be appointed to the third grade only, and may be promoted upon recommendation of the Chief of Police after service of one year, if, in the opinion of the Chief of Police, their service and ability entitles them to pro- motion. The Chief of Police may appoint into the second grade applicants who, in addition to regular requirements, have served at least one .year in the third grade in this service, or two years in police or detective service outside the police department of Salt Lake City, or a term of enlist- ment in the United States Army. The Chief of Police may appoint into the first grade applicants who, in addition to regular requirements, and having had two or more years' service in police and detective work, are especially qualifie for police service. All applicants must successfully pass such examinations as may be required by the prescribed rules and regulations. SECTION 2. In the opinion of the Board of Commissioners it -2- is necessary to the peace, health and safety of the City that this ordinance become effective immediately. SECTION 3. This ordinance shall take effect August 1, 1918.
