AN ORDINANCE AMENDING Sections 18-15-33 and 18-15-72, of
the Revised Ordinances of Salt Lake City, Utah 1965, relating to
enclosure of swimming pools and life guards required at swimming
pools.
Be it ordained by the Board of Commissioners of Salt Lake
City, Utah:
SECTION 1. That Secs. 18-15-33 and 18-15-72, of the Revised
Ordinances of Salt Lake City, Utah 1965, relating to enclosure of
swimming pools and life guards required at swimming pools, be,
and the same hereby are, amended to read as follows:
"Sec. 18-15-33. Enclosure of pool. A man-proof fence
or other barrier at least six feet in height shall com-
pletely encircle the pool area and shall be effectively
closed to entrance when the pool is not open to bathers,
except that in case of hotel, motel, trailer court, apart-
ment building or condominium pool, a man-proof fence or
barrier at least 4 feet in height shall completely encircle
the pool area and shall be provided with self closing and
locking gates for entrance to the pool area.

"Sec. 18-15-72. Life guards required. An adequate number
of qualified life guards shall be on duty in the pool area at
all times when the pool is open to bathers at all pools where
an admission charge is made for admission to the pool, or
where use of the pool is given to any number of persons for
a consideration, or where the pool is open for use, or is used,
by the public generally, or by persons other than an occupant
of a motel, hotel, trailer court, apartment building or condo-
minium, whether or not a charge is made for such use.
"In all cases where life guards are required as above
provided, one or more elevated guard chairs shall be provided
to permit unobstructed view of the pool at all times when the
pool is open to bathers.
"Where no life guard is required to be in attendance at
any pool proper and conspicuous signs shall be posted within
the pool area advising that no life guard is in attendance."

SECTION 2. In the opinion of the Board of Commissioners it
is necessary to the peace, health and welfare of the inhabitants
of Salt Lake City, Utah, that this ordinance become effective
immediately.
SECTION 3. This ordinance shall take effect upon its first
publication.
Passed by the Board of Commissioners of Salt Lake City, Utah,
this 20th day of July, 1965. 7
