AN ORDINANCE AMENDING SECTION616 and 24, of Chapter
3 of the Revised Ordinances of Salt hake city, Utah, 1920,
relating to auctioneers.
Be it ordained by the Board of Commissioners of salt
Lake City, Utah:
SECTION 1. That Sections 16 and 24, of Chapter 3 of
the Revised Ordinances of Salt Lake City, Utah, 1920, relating
to auctioneers, be and the same are hereby amended to read as
follows:
SECTION 16. TIME OP SALES. All sales of goods,
wares or merchandise by public auction in Salt Lake City,
Utah, must be made between the hours of seven o'clock A.
M. and six o'clock Y. M.
SECTION 24. SELLING JEWELRY BY AUCTION. It shall
be unlawful for any person to sell or dispose of or offer
for sale in Salt Lake City, Utah, at public auction, or to
cause or permit to be sold, disposed of, or offered for sale,
at public auction in Salt Lake City, Utah, any gold, silver
or plated ware, or precious stones or watches or clocks or
jewelry or china or glassware, whether the same shall be

agent or employee of others; provided, however, that this
section shall not apply to judicial sales or sales by execu-
tors or administrators, nor to sales by or in behalf of li-
aensed pawnbrokers of unredeemed pledges in manner provided

by law, nor to sales at public auction of stock on hand of
any person, that shall have been continuously in business
in Salt Lake City, Utah, as a retail or wholesale merchant
of gold, silver, or plated ware or precious stones or watchel
or clocks or jewelry or china or glassware, for the period
ji of one year next preceding such sale; provided further that
such sale at public auction of the stock on hand of such mer-
chant or merchants shall not be fed or replenished in anticki-
1 pation of such auction sale or pending or during such auction
sale, and that said auction sale shall be held on successive
days, Sundays and legal. holidays excepted, and shall not cony;
tinue for more than fifteen days during the period of one
year.
It shall be unlawful for any retail or wholesale
merchant or pawnbroker to sell or dispose of or offer for
sale in Salt Lake City, Utah, at public auction any gold,
silver or plated ware or precious stones or watches or clock

or jewelry or china or glassware, without first obtaining a
license so to do. The license fee therefor shall be 25.00
per day, payable in advance for each day such business shall
continue. Each applicant for such license shall file bond
hwith corporate surety in like manner and for the same amount
as an auction house owner as set forth in Section 20 of
Chapter 3 of the Revised Ordinances of Salt Lake City, Utah,
1920.
f SECTION 2. Any person violating any of the provisions of
this ordinance shall, upon conviction thereof, be punished by a
Mine in any sum not exceeding Tao Hundred Ninety-nine ($299.00)
Dollars, or by imprisonment in the City Jail for a period not
longer than six months, or by both such fine and imprisonment.
The court may in imposing a fine enter as part of the judgment
that in default of the payment of the fine the defendant may be
imprisoned in the City Jail for a period not exceeding six months.
SECTION 3. In the opinion of the Board of Commissioners,

it is necessary to the peace, health a.nd safety of the inhabitant
of Salt Lake City that this ordinance shall take effect immediatei-
ly.
SECTION 4. This ordinance shall take effect upon its
first publication.
