AN ORDINANCE A NDIN8' SECTION 3624 of Chapter XXXV of the
f
Revised Ordinances of S Lake City, Utah, 1944, relating to
Licenses.
Be it ordained by the Board of Commissioners of Salt Lake
City, Utah:
SECTION 1. That Section 3624 of the Revised Ordinances
of Salt Lake City, Utah, 1944, relating to Licenses, be and the
same is hereby amended to read as follows:
"SEC. 3624. BOXING CONTESTS--LICENSE--REGULATIONS.
. 1. It shall be unlawful for any person, firm, or incorporated
club to engage in, give, promote, or operate any boxing contest
or similar athletic exhibition without first obtaining a license
so to do, and without first complying fully with all of the
provisions of paragraph three (3) of this ordinance.
2. The license fee to be paid into the treasury of Salt
Lake City for such license shall be $200.00 per year, or any
part thereof, payable in advance; provided, however, that any
person desiring a combination boxing and wrestling license
may, in lieu of the license herein required for boxing and the
license required for wrestling under the provisions of Section
3717 of this chapter, pay into the city treasury such combina-
tion of licenses a fee of $250.00 per year, or any part thereof,
payable in advance.
3. Before any boxing contest or bout or similar athletic
exhibition shall be given, the person, firm, or incorporated
club giving, engaging in, or promoting such exhibitions shall

to and receive from the license assessor and collector

of Salt Lake City an affidavit of physical fitness form for each
contestant who will participate in each such exhibition or bout,
and each of which forms must be fully filled in and all instruc-
tions contained therein complied with by a qualified competent
and duly licensed member of the medical profession who shall
sign and swear to the same before a person authorized to
administer oaths as provided by the laws of the State of Utah,
all of the above is to be done at the expense of the promoter
of said exhibition or bout. The physical examination required
by and certified to in said affidavit shall be given within
twenty-four hours immediately preceding the proposed exhibi-
tion or bout, and each of said affidavits t11St'. be delivered
to the City Physician in person at least six hours prior to
any proposed exhibition or bout, provided however, that in cas-
of a necessary substitution in any such exhibition or bout, th-
promoter shall cause the required physical examination to be
made shortly before ring time, and the affidavit properly com-
pleted as herein above provided, delivered to the referee
before ring time.
4. The chief of police shall assign a police officer to
be present at all such exhibitions or bouts to inforce the
provisions of this ordinance.
5. Each boxing contest must comply with the following
rules and regulations and any violation of or failure to com-
ply with any of said rules and regulations shall be unlawful
and a violation of this ordinance.
a. No boxing contest shall be held on Sunday, Memorial
Day or Christmas.
b. No boxing contest shall be of more than ten rounds
duration and no one round of such contest shall be permitted
to extend for a longer period than three minutes.
c. There shall be a.t least one minute intermission fol-
lowing each round.

d. Each contestant shall wear gloves weighing not less
than 5 ounces, provided that if the contestants weigh more
than 145 pounds each they shall wear gloves weighing not less
than 6 ounces.

e. No contestant under the age of eighteen years, with-
out consent of parent or guardian shall be permitted to be
principal in any match.
f. No bet or wagering at any boxing contest shall be

and shall be unlawful. There shall be no unsportsman-like
conduct on the part of the contestants. This includes the use
of abusive or insulting language.
h. Any contestant or promoter who shall participate in
any sham or fake boxing contest or wrestling match or exhibi-
tion shall be restrained from participating in any boxing cones
test or wrestling match or exhibition to be held within this
city for a period of six months. If a contestant shall take
part a second time in any sham or fake boxing contest or
wrestling match or exhibition within this city he shall be
barred from further participation in boxing contests or wrest-I
ling matches or exhibitions in this city." 1
SECTION 2. In the opinion of the Board of Commissioners,I
it is necessary to the peace, health and safety of the inhabitants 1
of Salt Lake City that this ordinance become effftive immediately.
SECTION 3. This ordinance shall ke'eSS,A upon its
