Be it ordained by the City Council of Salt .ak.e City, Utah:
SECTION 1. That the following rules and regulations are hereby
established for the government and operation of street railroads, and,
shall be observed and complied with by every person, firm, company or.
corporation owning or operating a street railroad within Salt :else
City, and by the agents, officers and employoe,u ui any su.oh person,
firm, company or corporation:
1. It shall be unlawful to run a street car at a greater cute
of speed than is herein provided, to—wit: On Main Street, State
Street and West Temple Street between thu north line of `;oath Temple
Street and the south line of Seventh South Street, the rate of weed !
shall mot exceed Rise miles per hour. On all other streets the rate
of speed shall not exceed twelve miles per hour. On any bridge or
viaduct the rate of speed shall not exceed five miles per hour. No
car shall pass around any curve at a greater rate of speed then five
miles per hour.
2. All oars shall be provided with a gong, bell or whistle,
whioh shall be sounded within a reasonable distance before crossing
and while crossing any intersection within the district bounded on
the north by the north line of North Temple Street, on the south by
the south line of Seventh South Street, on the east by the east line '
of Second East Street, and on the west by the west line of Second
West Street, and such gong shall also be sounded at all tines and on ''
all streets at the first appearance of danger to any person, animal
or vehicle.
3. When any oar shall approach another car which bps been
stopped to take on or let off passengers, or for any other purpose,
the operator of the first mentioned car shall approach such car with
the greatest care and caution, and at the lownc:t re-to of! speed possible)
and s::.id first mentioned car shall be under the complete control of

the person running the sane; the person running said cer :s end,
its bell or gong as it approaches such car, end shall Bound its bell
or gong continuously until such car shall have been passed.
4. No ear shall be allowed to stop so as to block a crosswalk,
not in front of any intervening street, except to avoid oollissions,
or to prevent danger to persons or property in the street; nor shall
any car be left standing in any street or highway at any tine unless
!,the same be waiting for passengers.
5. The conductor, motorman, or other person in charge of each
oar shall keep a vigilant watch for all teams, vehicles, persons on I
foot, end especially for children, either on the traok or tracks, or •
near the same, or moving toward the same, and on the first appearance'
of danger to .uoh team, vehicle or person, said car shell be placed
under careful control, and shall be stopped in the shortest time and'
space possible.
6. All oars shall be plainly marked on both sides with appro-
priate lettering, indicating the street or rou.tea, upon which the
same run.
7. Where the cars stop at the end of a track or route, such oar;
shall sound its bell or gong et least one minute before starting on
its return trip.
SECTION 2. Any person, firm, company or corporation, or any em-
ployee, agent or servant of any such person, firm company or corpora-'
tion violating any of the provisions of this ordinance shell be deemed
guilty of a misdemeanor, and upon conviction thereof, shall be pun-
ished by a fine of not less than ij;25.00, nor more than i.299.00, or by
imprisonment in the City Jail not more than six months, or by both
such fine and imprisonment.
SECTION 3. All ordinances or resolutions, or parts of ordinance's
and resolutions in conflict herewith are hereby repealed.
SECTION 4. This ordinance shall take effect from and .after its
