Green Neslen._ Scheid Mr. Chairman _. __ Result JJ AN ORDINANCE An ordinance creating a Soldiers and Sailors Employment Commission, providing for the appointment of members thereof, their term of office, and prescribing the powers and duties of said Commission. Be it ordained by the Board of Commissioners of Salt Lake City, Utah: SECTION 1. There is hereby created in the Department of Public affairs and Finance a commission to be known as the Soldiers and Sailors Employment Commission, to be composed of the Mayor nine menbers, one of whom shall be ar->eeesboae-e#- e-Belrrir-e4 aarlst ;tiNlesees of Salt Lake City, d shall be the chairman of said commission. The members shall be appointed by the Board of Commissioners to serve for a term of two years, or until their successors are appointed and qualified. The members of the Soldiers and Sailors Employment Commission shall serve without compensation. The necessary expenses of said commission shall be paid out of the City Treasury upon appropriation by the Board of Commissioners. Said commission shall select from its own members a vice- chairman, and may also select a secretary who need not be a member of said commission. The secretary may be a city officer if so, he or employee,,,and„shal1 serve without additional compensation. The members of said commission shall have the same qualifi- i I cations as required for city officers. In making the appoint- ments, the Board of Commissioners shall, so far as possible, select men of broad vision and business experience from the various professional, business, manufacturing and mercantile fields represented in Salt Lake City. SECTION 2. It shall be the duty of the Soldiers and Sailors Employment Commission to compile data as to the name, residence, age, occupation and experience of each of the residents of Salt Lake City who are now or shall in future be in service in the military or naval establishments of the United States of kmerica, and to become and keep informed of the release or etionatksg discharge of all such men from such service, either before the war ends or at the close of the same. Said commission shall by co-operation with the different employers of labor, and with the public authorities, make provision and assist by every means within its power, in the placing of all such men returning to their homes from such military and naval service, in such employments as are best suited to them by reason of previous training or experience, and their then condition of y health or physical ability, and to make every effort possible to 1 a place all such men in„self-sustaining position upon their return to civil life. SECTION 3. The commission shall from time to time make report to the Board of Commissioners, and make such recommenda- tions as it sees fit with regard to the establishment of new pub- lic works, or the passage of ordinances, or the obtaining of other action when such becomes necessary for the purpose of effecting the objects for Which the commission is created. -2- SECTION 3.
