AN ORDINANCE AMENDING CHAPTER XLVI of the Revise& Ordinances
of Salt Lake City, Utahk 1944, by adding thereto a new section to be known
as Section 4867 relating to waste materials and discarded and abandoned
items.
Be it ordained by the Board of Commissioners of Salt Lake City,
Utah:
SECTION I. That Chapter XLVI of the Revised Ordinances of Salt
Lake City, Utah, 1944, be and the same is hereby amended by adding in and
to said chapter a new section to be known as 4867, which shall read as
follows:
SECTION 4867: RELATING TO WASTE MATERIALS AND DISCARDED
AND ABANDONED ITEMS: (a) It shall be unlawful for any person to cause
or permit junk, scrap metal, scrap lumber, waste paper products, discarded
building materials, or any unused, abandoned vehicle, vehicles or abandoned
parts, machinery or machinery parts, or other waste materials to be in or

upon any yard, garden, lawn, out-building, or premises in the City of
Salt Lake, unless in connection with a business enterprise lawfully situa-
ted and licensed for the same. It shall be unlawful to permit any accumula-
tion of any such waste materials to be in or upon any yard, lawn, garden,
out-building or premises in Salt Lake City if the same constitutes a fire
hazard, a hazard to the safety of persons or property, or an insanitary
condition.
(b) The City Building Inspector, the Health Commissioner and
the zoning are hereby authorized and empowered to examine or cause
to be examined every premises suspected to contain an unlawful accumulation
of any such waste materials and if the same be found, to give the person

responsible for the same, or the owner, or the occupant of premise
upon which found, a written notice stating that an unlawful accumu
lation of waste material has been found upon the premises and
directing the person to whom the notice is addressed to eliminate
1 the violation within a reasonable time specified in such notice.
The time so provided shall be commensuate with the work required t.
be done to correct the unlawful condition. Proper service of any
such notice shall be by personal service upon the person responsib e
for the unlawful accumulation,or the owner, authorized property
management agent, or occupant of the premises. Alternatively,
such service may be made to such persons by registered mail and
return receipt requested.
It shall be unlawful for any person to fail to carry out
the work required to be done by any such notice within the time
specified by such notice.
(c) It shall be unlawful for any person to discard or
abandon any of the waste materials mentioned in paragraph (a)
hereof, upon premises not owned or occupied by such person without
the consent of the owner thereof or the person occupying the same;
and any such waste materials so deposited without such consent
shall be deemed to have been discarded and abandoned if the same
remain upon such premises .for a period exceeding 72 hours. Dis-
carding and abandonment of any such waste materials shall be deeme.

officers and agents may summarily remove the same and dispose of
the same as provided by law.
SECTION 2: In the opinion of the Board of Commissioners,
it is necessary to the peace, health and safety of the inhabitants
of Salt Lake City, Utah that this ordinance become effective
immediately.
SECTION 3: This ordinance shall take effect upon its pub-
lication.
