AN ORDINANCE AMENDING TITLE 30, CHAPTER 1, of the Revised Ordinances of Salt Lake City, Utah, 1955, by adding Section 26, concerning the designa- tion of uniforms of the Salt Lake City Police Department, enacted pursuant to the Utah Code Annotated, 1953, Title 76-20-1. Be it ordained by the Board of Commissioners of Salt Lake City, Utah: SECTION 1. That Title 30, Chapter 1, of the Revised Ordinances of Salt Lake City, Utah, 1955, be, and the same hereby is, amended by adding Section 26 concerning the designation of uniforms of the Salt Lake City Police Department, enacted pursuant to the Utah Code Annotated, 1953, Title 76-20-1, which section shall read as follows: "Section 30-1-26. (a) Under direction and supervision of the-Chief of Police of Salt Lake City, only regularly and full time employed officers and employees of the Salt Lake City Police Department shall have authority to wear any sub- stantial part of the total regulation uniform, which would have the effect of causing public confusion as to lawful police authority. "(b) EXCLUSIONS. The provisions of this ordinance shall not apply to designations of uniforms by other lawfully con- stituted public bodies. "(c) The specifications of the regulation uniform of the Salt Lake City Police Department are as follows: "CAP: Eight point one piece, cover and band 100% all wool navy blue, black plastic visor drooped at 45 degree angle. Black plastic front strap held by two gold buttons initialed "P", two eyelets each side in cover, one eyelet front centered, leather sweat band inside headband, two rows soutache braid navy blue one row bottom and top of band. "TIE: All wool navy blue, ready tied knot, half of neckband to be elastic navy blue. Snap fastener on side of knot constructed to open when tie is pulled with moderate pressure. "SHIRT: All wool tropical worsted, 10 oz., dark navy blue, two front pockets pleated, pocket flaps to button, three points on pocket flaps, shoulder straps same material as body of shirt, black bone buttons. Cloth badge tab two eyelets one inch above left pocket, centered. Also, same specifications in material consisting of 23% wool and 77% rayon. 77 -2- "TROUSERS: All wool, 19 to 20 oz., pink elastic, two side pockets, two hip pockets without pocket flaps, A inch navy blue braid on outside seams of both legs extending from bottom of side pockets to bottom of legs. Bottom of legs hemmed with no cuff. "DRESS JACKET: Eisenhower style, 100% all wool navy blue serge, 16 oz., front zipper concealed, cloth concealing zipper held down by two snaps, one at top and one at bottom of front opening. Two front pockets pleated. Bottom of pockets to be six inches above top of waistband. Two pocket flaps, three points on each, buttoned to pockets with a gold button initialed "P", four gold buttons vertically in front initialed "P", lapel, collar, shoulder straps same material as body of jacket to button down with gold button initialed "P." Coat sleeve with one row z inch navy blue braid around sleeve 3i inches from bottom of each sleeve, two gold buttons at bottom of each sleeve, vertical, one and two inches above bottom of sleeve, full lined, one inside breast pocket right side, bi-swing back, two adjustment straps, one on each side of waistband. Metal badge holder z inch above left pocket centered over pocket. "LEATHER JACKET: Patrolman style: front-quarter horsehide black leather, leather collar with detachable mouton fur collar detached by snaps, four in front, three in back, full lining black rayon. One inside breast pocket leather trimmed left side. Heavy duty zipper front, two slash pockets in front with zippers at opening. Leather doubled at waistband and reinforced. Five outside gunbelt loops to open by snaps, four inch adjustment opening each side of waistband, one piece back. Coat sleeve with opening at bottom of sleeves with snap fastener. Leather badge tab two inches above top of left pocket opening. "LEATHER JACKET: Motorcycle style: same specifications as patrolman style with the following changes: seven inch zipper each sleeve, verticle from bottom of sleeve up toward elbow. Two piece back with pointed yoke at shoulder line, two inch leather extension rounded extending down from back at bottom, extension to be double thickness of leather. "SUMMER SHIRT: All wool tropical worsted, 10 oz., dark navy blue, two front pockets pleated, pocket flaps to button, three points on pocket flaps, shoulder straps to be all wool tropical worsted color matching trousers, pink, black bone buttons, cloth badge tab, two eyelets one arch above left pocket centered, short sleeves, open convertable sport collar. "DRESS SHIRT: White. "SHORT COAT: 30-ounce beaver; notched-type lapel collar; two skirt-type patch pockets with flaps each side; epaulets; brass sleeve buttons and " navy blue braid around sleeve 3A" from bottom of each sleeve. Brass buttons initialed "P". 'kAINCOAT: To be furnished by Department. "BELT AND HOLSTER: to us furnished by Department. "SHOES: Black in color, conservative type. Navy type oxford preferred. - 3 - "SOX: Black or dark blue. "SHOULDER PATCH: As furnished by department. "NOTE: Dress uniform will consist of pink trousers, Eisenhower, jacket, white shirt, and navy blue tie. "NOTE: Caps must be worn with wire in place. Wire is not to be removed. rtUNIFORIv CHANGE DATES: Winter uniform will be worn commencing October 1st through May 31st. Summer uniform will be worn commencing June 1st through September 30th. SECTION 2. In the opinion of the Board of Commissioners it is necessary to the peace, health and safety of the inhabitants of Salt Lake City that this ordinance shall become effective immediately. SECTION 3. This ordinance shall take effect upon its first publication.
