AN ORDINANCE AMENDING CHAPTER 1 of Title 25 of the Revised Ordi- nances of Salt Lake City, Utah, 1965, relating to officers and employees of the city, by adding thereto a new section 25-1-10, relating to funeral leave. Be it ordained by the Board of Commissioners of Salt Lake City, Utah: SECTION 1. That Chapter 1 of Title 25 of the Revised Ordinances of Salt Lake City, Utah, 1965, relating to officers and employees of the City, be, and the same hereby is, amended by adding thereto a new Section 25-1-10, relating to funeral leave, to read as follows: "Sec. 25-1-10. Funeral leave. (a) Time off with pay will be granted a permanent (full time) employee who suffers the loss of a wife, husband, child, mother, father, brother, sister, father-in-law, or mother-in-law. In the event of death in any of these instances, the employee will be paid his regular base pay for scheduled work time from the time of death through the day of the funeral. Satisfactory proof of such death, together with the date thereof and the date of burial, must be furnished by the employee to his department head. "(b) In the event of death of relatives other than those enumerated in subsection (a), an employee will be paid for time off from scheduled working hours while attending the funeral services for such persons, not to exceed eight (8) hours. "(c) In the event of death of friends an employee may be granted time off without pay while attending the funeral services for such persons, not to exceed four (4) hours, subject to the approval of his immediate supervisor. "(d) Time off under this ordinance shall not be included as time worked in the computation of overtime pay. "(e) In the event the death of any member of the immediate family as set forth in subsection (a) of this ordinance occurs while an employee is on vacation, his vacation will be extended by the amount of time authorized as funeral leave under said subsection. 1 -2- "(f) The provisions of this ordinance shall not be applicable to employees who are on leave of absence." SECTION 2. In the opinion of the Board of Commissioners of Salt Lake City, it is necessary to the peace, health and welfare of the inhabitants of Salt Lake City that this ordinance become effective immediately. SECTION 3. This ordinance shall take effect upon its first publication.
