Section 1. That Section 280 of the Revised Ordinances
of Salt Lake City, Utah, of 1913, as amended by ordinance
passed by the Board of Commis.:.inners on august 3rd, 1916,
and Sections 406 and 407 Revised Ordinances of Salt loake City
1913; , all relating to buildings, be, and the same hereby are,
amended so as to read as follows:
Section 280. Theaters in any part of the city shall
be of Class "A" or Class "3" construction.
Hospitals, sanitariums and halls and other places
of public assemblages, seating more than 1,000 persons,
other than theaters, built in any part of the city, shall
be of Class "A" or Class "B" construction, with columns
in outer walls supporting floor and roof loads.
Department stores, built anywhere in the city and
used for the storage and sale of merchandise, shall be
of either Class "A", Class "B" or Class
"0" construction,
and shall be limited to the heights prescribed for said
types of construction; provided, however, th>:.t no build-
ing of this character shall be constructed to a greater
height than 102 feet.
School buildings of more than one story shall be of
Class "A" or Class "B" construction; one story school
"
buildings shall be of Class "A", Class "B" or Class "C"
construction.
"Stables". All buildings used for stabling animals
above the first or ground floor or in basement, shall be
of Class "Jr' or Class "B" construction.
Section 406. For the purposes of this ordinance,
a theatre is a building which contains not less than one
hundred (100) seats for the public and to which an ad-
mission fee is charged, and having a permanent stage upon
which scenery and other movable appliances are used.
All theatres hereafter constructed shall be of
Class
"A" or Class "B" construction.
The following special provisions shall apply to
their construction, in addition to the provisions relat-
ing generally to Class "A" and Class "B" buildings.

Section 407. Every theatre hereafter erected, to be
used for theatrical or operatic purposes, must be con-
structed in accordance with the requirements of the
ordinance relating to Class "A" or Class "B" o
lrwme construction. No uuilding which at the time of
the passage of this ordinance is not in actual use for
theatrical or operatic purposes, and no building here-
after erected not in conformity with the requirements
of this ordinance, shall be used tor theatrical or
operatic purposes, until the same shall have been made
to conform to the requirements of this ordinance.

And no building herein described shall be opened to the
puolic for operatic or theatrical purposes until the
inspector of buildings and the chief of fire d=partment
have approved the same, and no license shall, be issued
for any performance in any such building until ouch
approval shall have been obtained.
Section 2. In the opinion of the Coard of Coinmi,ss-
Toners it is necessary to the peace, health and safety of
the City of Salt hake that the within ordinance take effect
immediately.
Section b. This ordinance shall the effect u_;on
its first publication.
