Mr.Chairman RESULT - - I_.-",..t AB ORDINANCE . An ordinance licensing public dance halls and dancing academies, and regulating the management thereof. Be it ordained by the Board of Commissioners of Salt Lake City, Utah: SECTION 1. It shall be unlawful for any person, firm, associa- tion or corporation to manage, conduct or carry on a public dance hall, or public dancing academy in Salt Lake City without first obtainin a license so to do. SECTION 2. The licence fee roc_uired for a public dance hall shall be „10.00 per day, or ;;i400.00 per year, if such hall xinat be operated and managed by the year; for a public dancing academy the • license fee shall be ;,50,00 per year. SECTION 3. Such license fee shall specify the location in which the public dance hall or public dancing academy is to be conducted, and the Board of Cornmiiscioners of Salt Lake City shall revoke any such license when it shall appear to the Board that any .public dance hall or public dancing academy so licensed is conducted in an illegal, dis- orderly or improper manner, or whenever the person, firm, association or corporation conducting such dance hall or dancing academy has been convicted of s, violm.tion of any of the provisions of this ordinance. No such license shall be revoked until a hearing shall have boon had • by the Board of Commissioners in the matter, written notice of which hearing shall be nerved at least three days ,prior to the' date thereof upon the holder of such license, or 'riis or its manager or agent. Such notice shall state the ground. of complaint against tits; holder of such license, end thetime when and place shore such henring shall be hs,d, end it shall be served by delivering the same personally to the • holder of such licence, or to his or its mrnszer or agent. SECTION 5. It shall be unlawful for cup '.neon, firm, associa- tion or corporation conducting or m .innt:ining a public dance hall or public dancing; acdemy, or having charge or control thereof, to cond,.uct, csrry on or omit any dance or dancing therein between the hours of twelve o'clock, midnight, of any day of the week other than Saturday, and six o'clock A. M. of tho following day, and between the hours of twelve o'clock, midnight, of any Saturday and sin: o'clock A. M. of the following lhonday. SECTION 6. It shall be unlawful for any minor under the age of eighteen years, unless accompanied by his or her parent or guardian, to enter, be or remain in any public dance hall at any time when a dance is being carried on therein, or to dance therein; and. it shall be unlawful for any person, firm, association or corporation conduct- ing or maintaining a public dance hall to permit any minor under the age of eighteen years to enter, be or remain in such ; ,_blic dance hall, or to dance therein at any time while c. dance is in progress or being conducted therein, unless such minor is a accom2anied. by his or her parent or guardian. SECTION 7. It shall be unlawful for any person at any time when a. dance or dancing is in progress or being; conducted in a public r`Y?1 ,r -3- dance hall or public dancing academy, to take or bring into, or to cause or permit to be taken or brought into, or to be drunk in such dance hall or dancing academy, any intoxicating liquor, or to take or bring any intoxicating liquor into, or to drink the same in, or to cause or permit intoxicating liquor to be taken into or to be drunk in any room or place connected with Lor used in connection with such dance hall or . dancing academy, or in any place upon the same premises, or within the same enclosure in which such dance hell or dancing • academy is situated; and it shall be unlawful for any person, firm, association or corporation maintaining or conducting any pathe dance hall or public dancing academy to allow or permit any intoxicated, boisterous or disorderly person to enter, be, or remain in, or dance • in any such dance hail or dancing academy; nor shall any smoking be indulged in, or be permitted to be indulged in, on the floor of any dance hall oxidancing academy, or in any of the entrances or approaches thereto. IIIIII SECTION 8. It shall be unlawful for any person, firm, associa- tion or corporation conducting or maintaining a public dance hall or • public dancing academy to conduct any dance or dancing in such hall • or academy after sunset of any day unless such hall or dancing academy be lighted either by gas or electric light, or other means, in such manner and to such extent as is usual or customary for lighting halls or rooms of like dimensions in the night time for public assemblies, before any person is admitted thereto, and before any dance or dancing is commenced therein, and unless such lighting shall be maintained thereafter without diminution and without interruption throughout the entire time while such dance or dancing is in progress, and until such dance or dancing is concluded and such hall or academy is cleared and closed. SECTION 9. It shall be unlawful for any person, firm, associa- tion or corporation conducting or maintaining a public d ncii ?academy j- to permit any minor under the age of sixteen years to enter such dancing academy, or to dance or be instructed in dancing therein between the hours of six o'clock P. M. and twelve o'clock midnight of any day, unless such minor be accompanied by his or her parent or guardian, or by some other adult person authorized in writing, by such ' '.,parentOr guardian, to accompany such minor; or unless the parent or ? SECTION 11. It shall be unlawful for any person in any public dance hall or dancing academy in Salt Lake City to dance any improper, indecent or obscene dance or dances commonly known and designated as the "Turkey Trot", the "Texas Tommy", the "Grizzly Bear", and other dances of like character; and it shall be unlawful for any person, firm, association or corporation conducting or maintaining any public dance hall or public dancing academytopermitany erson to dance or _ engage in any improper, indecent or obscene dance as aforesaid: SECTION 12. Any person, firm, association or corporation violat- ing any of the provisions of this ordinance, upon conviction thereof shall be punished by a fine of not more than ;Y50.O0, or by imprison- lfi@ht in the City Jail for not a_;o:'e than thirty days, or by both such fine and imprisonment. -- SECTION 13.
