Result li AN ORDINANCE Au ordinance amending Sections 776 and 792 od the Revised Ordinan- ces of Salt Lake City,1913, as amended,relating to salaries and organizat- ion of Salt Lake City Fire Department. Be it ordained by the Board of Commissioners of Salt Lake City, Utah: Section 1: That Section 770 of the Revised Ordinances of Salt Lake City of 1913, as amended, be and the same is hereby amended so as to read as follows: Section 776: The Fire Department of Salt Lake City shall here- after consist of the following officers, men, employes and agents, whose duties and compensations shall be as provided by ordinance: One chief of department. One assistant chief of department. Seven captains. Six lieutenants One superintendent of fire and police alarm. One master mechanic One inspector One secretary Sixty-eight firemen of three grades,to wit: first grade, second grade, third grade. And such additional employees and at such compensations as the Board of Commissioners shall from time to time authorize. Section 2. That Section 792 of the Revised Ordinances of Salt Lake City,1913,as amended be and the some is hereby amended so as to read as follows: Section 792: Compensations, Grading,etc. The officers,employes, men and agents of the fire department shall recieve yearly salaries,pay able monthly, as are the salaries of other city officials,not exceeding t" 84 --2-- the amounts as follows; Chief of department $3000.00 Assistant chief 1800.00 Captains 1560.00 Lieutenants 1320.00 Supt.of fire and police alarm 1800.00 Master Mechanic 1800.00 Inspector 1320.00 Secretary 1280.00 Firemen of first grade 1260.00 Firemen of second grade 1140.00 Firemen of third grade 1020.00 Firemen without previous experience shall be appointed to the third grade only, and may be promonted upon recommendation of the 44Nse chief of the fire department after service of one year, if, in the opinion of the chief of the fire department, their service and ability entitles them to promotion.The chief of the fire department may appoint into the second grade applicants who, in addition to regular requirements, have served at least one year in the third grade in this service or two years in fire service outside of the fire department of Salt Lake City, or a term of enlistment in the United States army. The chief of the fire de- partment may appoint into the first grade applicants who, in addition to regular requirements and having had two or more years' service in fire service, are especially qualified. All applicants must successfully pass such examinations as may be required by the prescribed rules and regulations. No member of the fire departmentshall be allowed pay for any per- iod during which he may have been absent from duty, unless such absence resulted from sickness or disability contracted or received in the die.. charge of his duty and incident to the service.. No member of the fire department shall receive any fee or any compensation whatever, directly or indirectly, from a city, county or state for any service rendered or act done by such member of the fire department, other than the salary provided for by ordinance,except witness fees in superior courts, nor shall any member of the fire department receive any money or compen- 1 .. -.3... nor shall any member of the fire department receive any money or compen• sation whatsoever, directly or indirectly, from any person, for any ser. vice rendered, or to be rendered or act done, other than the salary pro. vided for by ordinance; provided,however, that a gift or reward may be accepted by a member of the fire department only upon the written recom- mendation of the chief of the fire department and approval of the Commis. sioner of Public Safety. Section 3; This ordinance shall take effect thirty-one days after its firsttpublication.
