AN ORDINANCE AMENDING SECTION 804 of the Revised Ordinances of Salt Lake City, Utah, 1944, relating to sanitary inspection. Be it ordained by the Board of Commissioners of Salt Lake City, Utah: SECTION 1. That Section 804 of the Revised Ordinances of Salt Lake City, Utah, 1944, relating to sanitary inspection, be and the same is hereby amended to read as follows: "SEC. 804. LICENSE AND PERMIT. (a) It shall be unlawful for any person to collect, carry, transport or haul or to engage in the business of collecting, carrying, transport- ing or hauling garbage, manure, market waste, trade waste, night soil, dead animals or other refuse without first ob- rxfi taining a permit from the Board of Health and a license from the License Assessor and Collector to do so. (b) All such persons prior to making application for such required permit and license shall present each vehicle to be used in such business to the duly designated inspector of the Salt Lake City Board of Health for inspection and approval. Said inspector shall give to the owner or driver of each truck that meets the requirements hereinafter enumerated a card signed by him stating that said vehicle as identified by said card has passed inspection and the said card shall be presented to the License Assessor and Collector at the time of application for license and no license shall be issued without the said card being properly filled out and signed by the said inspector of the City Board of Health. (c) Each vehicle to be used must meet the following minimum regxirements: The vehicle body must be in good condi- ' tion and repair. The body must be not less than ten (10) ii ij feet long, six (6) feet wide and four (ti) feet high; must be } metal lined with steel or other acceptable metal (aluminum) to the full width and height of body, welded at all seams. The tail gate of the truck shall be so constructed as nearly as possible so that the contents of the body will not spill or. 1 blow from the vehicle while in motion. The outside of the body must be painted and identified by the name of the indi- i !9 vidual or company and telephone number of the person owning jj said truck in letters and numbers that are legible and of suf- ,j jj ficient size to be plainly read from a distance of 75 feet. } The permit number issued by the Board of Health and required 1 by Section 620 of these ordinances shall be painted on. the outside of both sides in the lower front corner of the ve- hicle body in letters of not less than l2 inches in highth. The city license plate shall be securely fastened to the right ii side of the vehicle body. Each vehicle must be covered with 'a heavy duty canvas or other heavy acceptable material at all times when the vehicle is being used for the collection of, or 1carrying, transporting or hauling garbage, manure, market II waste, trade waste, night soil, dead animals or other refuse and is to be driven for a distance of five blocks or more with- ,+ out making a stop. jj (d) It shall be unlawful for any person other than aper- 1 son duly licensed to collect, haul, convey or transport any of the waste materials herein mentioned, or to interfere in any manner with any receptacles containing any such waste materials or to remove any such receptacle from the location where placed ii by the owner thereof, or to remove any of the contents of such receptacles." 4j SECTION 2. In the opinion of the Board of Commissioners, it is necessary to the peace, health and safety of the inhabitant; ij of Salt Lake City that this ordinance shall become effective immediately.
