granting of this franchise the said grantee hereby agrees to pay into
the City Treasurery of Salt Lake City on or before the 20th day of
January in each year of its gross receipt from the transportation of
mail, fruit , vegetables, poultry, dairy pro uce, and other like
express matter permitted by this ordinance as follows:
Two per cent cf said gross receipts for the first five
years after this ordinance -goes into effect:
Three per cent of said gross receipts for the second
five years, and
Five per cent of said gross receipts for the balance of
the life of the Franchise hereby granted.
And that it shall on or before the 5th day of January of
each year furnish the Auditor of Salt Lake City a verified
statement showing the gross receipts aforesaid, for the preceeding
year.

AN ORDINANCE
An ordinance granting the Utah Light and Railway Company
permission to run its cars carrying mail and express matter over
certain streets in Salt Lake City.
Be it ordained by the Board of Commissioners of Salt Lake
City, Utah:
SECTION 1. That in consideration of the sums of money to
be paid by, and the performance of and compliance with the terms,
conditions and agreements hereinafter set out by the Utah Light
& Railway Company, said Utah Light & Railway Company is hereby
authorized and permitted to carry mail and express matter, for
transportation from points outside of the limits of this City, or
from this City to such outside points upon and over its car lines
on the following streets of this City, to-wit:
Beginning where its car tracks enter the northern limits
of the city on its Bountiful and Centerville line, thence southerly
to Second West Street, south on Second West Street to First North
Street, east on First North Street to 'lest Temple Street, south on
West Temple Street to and into the company's property between First
South and Second South Streets.
Also beginning where its car tracks enter the southern limits
of the City on its Holliday and Cottonwood line, thence in a north-
erly direction to Twelfth South Street, north on Eleventh East Street
to Ninth South Street, west on Ninth South Street to West Temple
Street, and north on West Temple Street to and into the company's
property between First and Second South Streets.
Also from the southern limits of Salt Lake City where its
tracks enter on State Street, thence north on State Street to Ninth.
South Street, west on Ninth South Street to West Temple Street, and
North on West Temple Street to and into the company's property
between First South and Second South Streets.

SECTION 2. That the cars to be used for the purpose stated
in Section 1 of this ordinance shall be closed cars of the same
general outer design, color and appearance asthe passenger cars in
use by said company in Salt Lake City .at the same time, and so
arranged as to entirely enclose all loaded matter, and to be operated
by electric power, and in single car lots only.
SECTION 3. No such mail or express cars •shall. be permitted
to stand on any track or switch on any street longer than five
minutes, nor shall any such mail or express matter be loaded or
unloaded on any street within the city.
SECTION 4. Salt Lake City reserves the right to regulate
and control the speed of all cars of the Utah Light and Railway
Company within the city limits, and nothing in this grant shall be
construed to in any wise affect the exercise of the police power of
the City for the safety and health of the people.
SECTION 5. Nothing in this ordinance shall be construed to
authorize or permit the grantee named herein, its successors or
assigns, to lay any new or additional tracks, switches, spurs, or
turnouts, upon any of the streets mentioned herein, except as
provided in Section 1 of this ordinance.
SECTION 6. That in further consideration for the granting
of this franchise the said grantee hereby agrees to pay into the
City Treasury of Salt Lake City on or before the 20th day of
January of each year the sum of twenty-five dollars (t25.04)) per
car for each of its cars used in the transportation of such mail
or express matter as is authorized by Section 1 of this ordinance,
and that it will on or before the 5th day of January of each year
furnish the Auditor of Salt Lake City a verified statement showing
the number of cars used by it for the purpose aforesaid for the
preceding year.
SECTION 7. That if said Utah Light & Railway Company shall
fail or refuse to comply with any of the terms, conditions and
agreements in this ordinance set out, or the directions of the
Board. of Commissioners as herein provided, the Board o.

Commissioners of Salt Lake City reserves the right and this ordinance
is passed and this franchise granted said grantee upon the express
condition that said Board may by written notice to said company
rescind, cancel and terminate and revoke this ordinance and

SUCTION 8. That the terms, conditions and agreements set
out in this ordinance shall apply to and bind the successor and

terms, conditions and agreements herein contained, shall extend to
the first day of July, 1955.
Section 10. The Utah Light & Railway Company shall, within
thirty days after this ordinance becomes effective, file its
acceptance of the same in writing with the City Recorder of Salt
Lake City, otherwise this ordinance shall be null and void. •
Section 11. This ordinance shall. t e effect upon its first
publication.
