AN ORDINANCE AMENDING SECTIONS 1-2-2 subsection (b), 1-2-3 and
1-2-19 of the Revised Ordinances of Salt Lake City, Utah, 1955, as
amended, relating to "Dogs."
Be it ordained by the Board of Commissioners of Salt Lake City, Utah:
SECTION 1 . That Sections 1-2-2 subsection (b), 1-2-3 and 1-2-19
of the Revised Ordinances of Salt Lake City, as amended, relating to
"Dogs", be, and the same hereby are, amended to read as follows:
"Sec. 1-2-2.
(b) Dog of licensing age shall mean any dog which has been
weaned or which has attained the age of two months.
"Sec. 1-2-3. LICENSE AND REGISTRATION REQUIRED. All dogs
which have been weaned or that have attained the age of two
months, kept, harbored or maintained by any person in the
city of Salt Lake City, shall be licensed and registered.
Dog licenses shall be issued by the Department of Animal Control ,
upon payment of a license fee of two ($2.00) dollars for each
male or spayed female, and five ($5.00) dollars for each
unspayed female dog. The owner shall state at the time application
is made for such license, his name and address and the sex, breed
and color of each dog owned or kept by him. The license fee
shall cover the calendar year in which the license was issued,
expiring on the thirty-first day of December of the year of
issuance regardless of the date thereof.
(a) The provisions of this section shall not be intended
(` to apply to dogs whose owners are non-residents temporarily
within the city for thirty (30) days or less, nor to dogs
brought into the city for the purpose of participating in
any dog show, nor to commercial kennels.
(b) Dogs used as guides for blind persons and commonly
known as "seeing eye dogs" shall be licensed and registered
as other dogs hereinabove provided for, except that the owner
or keeper of such dog shall not be required to pay any fee
therefor.
(c) Payment of license fee shall be made to the Department
of Animal Control or to an authorized representative of the
Department.
(d) No female shall be licensed as spayed except upon
certificate of a licensed veterinarian.

"Sec. 1-2-19. DOGS WHICH DISTURB NEIGHBORHOOD. No person,
persons, firm or corporation shall own, keep or harbor any
dog which by loud, continued or frequent barking, howling,
yelping, or by noxious or offensive odors shall annoy,
disturb or endanger the health and welfare of any person
or neighborhood; such Is unlawful and is hereby declared to
be a nuisance and each day shall constitute a separate
offense. Provided, however, that this section shall not
apply to the Municipal Dog Pound, Veterinary Hospitals or
Medical Laboratories."
SECTION 2. In the opinion of the Board of Commissioners, it
is necessary to the peace, health and safety of the inhabitants of
Salt Lake City that this ordinance become effective Immediately.
SECTION 3. This or dinance shall take effect upon its first
publication.
