AN ORDINANCE AMENDING Sections 2T-6-4 and 20-6-5 of the Revised Ordinances
of Salt Lake City, Utah, 1965, relating to bicycle dealers.
Be it ordained by the Board of City Commissioners of Salt Lake City, Utah:
SECTION 1. That Title 20 Chapter 6 of the Revised Ordinances of Salt Lake
City, Utah, 1965, relating to bicycle dealers, be, and the same hereby are,
amended to read as follows:
"Sec. 20-6-4. Licensing or registration of bicycles required. It
shall be unlawful for any bicycle dealer to fail to license or register
any used or new bicycle sold, bartered, given away, exchanged or re-
paired by said dealer. Said licensing or registration shall be com-
pleted as follows:
(1) Licensing shall be required of all bicycles sold for use
in Salt Lake County. Licensing shall be on a form supplied by Salt
Lake City Corporation to said dealers at cost. Dealers may charge
the customer no more than one dollar for the license costs.
(2) Registration shall be required of all bicycles sold for use
outside Salt Lake County. Registration shall be on a form supplied
by Salt Lake City Corporation at cost to dealers. Dealers may
charge the customer no more than one dollar for the registration
costs.
(3) The licenseing and registration forms shall be in different
colors and shall be filled out in triplicate with the first copy
going to the purchaser, the second copy shall be mailed to the appro-
priate law enforcement division where the intended user resides with-
in seven days of date of sale, and the third copy shall be retained
by the dealer for a period of three years from date of sale. All
entries shall be typewritten or printed in ink and shall contain the
following information: name and address of intended user or owner,
make, model number, frame number, frame size, wheel size, color of
bicycle, dealer's name and address, number of grooves on said bike,
license number or registration number and such other information as
the City may require by printing appropriate spaces on the forms.
"Sec. 20-6-5. Duty to impose serial number. No dealer may sell, give
away, or otherwise dispose of any bicycle which does not contain a serial
number. If the bicycle does not have a serial number, the dealer shall
impress in the metal frame a serial number consisting of the license or
registration number and followed by the N.C.I.C. number for the police
department in the users area."
SECTION 2. In the opinion of the Board of Commissioners of Salt Lake City,
it is necessary to the health, peace and welfare of the inhabitants of Salt Lake
City, that this Ordinance become effective immediately.
SECTION 3. This Ordinance shall take effect upon its first publication.
