AN ORDINANCE AMENDING Sections 278(6) and 279.1 , referred to
in Article 18, of the Traffic Code of Salt Lake City, Utah, relating
to bicycle regulations.
Be it ordained by the Board of Commissioners of Salt Lake City,
Utah:
SECTION 1. That`.Sections' 278(6) and 279.1 referred to in Article
18 of the Traffic Code of Sal't.11ake,City, Utah, relating to the
riding of bicycles on sidewalks and penalties, be, and the same hereby
are, amended to read as follows:
Sec. 278. Bicycles, miscellaneous rules. * * *

278(6) To ride any bicycle upon any sidewalk within the
central traffic district as defined in Section 8 of the
Traffic Code of Salt Lake City, and as described in Schedule
1 of the Salt Lake City Traffic Code and made a part hereof
by reference, or on any other area where prohibited by signs.
Sec. 279.1. Penalties. An operator of a bicycle may be
punished by a fine in an amount not to exceed fifty dollars
or by imprisonment not to exceed thirty days, or by both
such fine and imprisonment for any violation of the Traffic
Code of Salt Lake City.
SECTION 2. In the opinion of the Board of Commissioners of Salt
Lake City, it is necessary to the health, peace and welfare of the
inhabitants of Salt Lake City, that this ordinance become effective
immediately.
SECTION 3. This ordinance shall take effect upon its first pub-
lication.
Passed by the Board of Commissioners of Salt Lake City, Utah, this
12th day of August, 1975.
