AN ORDINANCE AMENDING TITLE 5 of the Building Code, by adding
thereto a new Chapter 3, entitled Uniform Housing Code, and repealing
Chapter 14 of Title 18 of the Revised Ordinances of Salt Lake City,
Utah, 1965, relating to housing.
Be it ordained by the Board of Commissioners of Salt Lake City,
Utah:
SECTION 1. That Title 5 of the Building Code is hereby amended
by adding thereto a new chapter to be known as Chapter 3, entitled
Uniform Housing Code, to read as follows:
"CHAPTER 3
"HOUSING CODE
"Sec. 5-3-1. Housing code adopted. Volume III of the
Uniform Building Code, entitled "Housing", approved by the
Active Class A members of the 44th Annual Business meeting
of the International Conference of Building Officials, held
October 3, to October 7, 1966, as adopted and issued by
said International Conference of Building Officials, as the
Uniform Building Code, Vol. III, Housing, 1967 Edition, as a
code in book form, three copies of which have been filed for
use and examination by the public in the office of the City
Recorder of Salt Lake City, which code establishes the
minimum requirements for the protection of life, limb, health,
property, safety and welfare of the general public and the
owners and occupants of residential buildings within Salt Lake
City, providing penalties for violation thereof and repealing
all ordinances and parts of ordinances in conflict therewith,
are hereby adopted by Salt Lake City as ordinances, rules and
regulations of said city, together with and sub cct to the
amendments to said code hereinafter in this %x%Yffi set out.
"Sec. 5-3-2. Violations and penalties. Section H-204 of
the Uniform Building Code, Vol. III, Housing, 1967 Edition, is
amended to read as follows:
"It shall be unlawful for any person, firm, or corporation
to erect, construct, enlarge, alter, repair, move, improve,
remove, convert, or demolish, equip, use, occupy, or maintain
any building or structure in the city, or cause or permit the
same to be done, contrary to or in violation of any of the
provisions of this code.

"Any person, firm, or corporation violating any of the
provisions of this code shall be guilty of a misdemeanor, and
each such person shall be deemed guilty of a separate offense
for each and every day or portion thereof during which any
violation of any of the provisions of this code is committed,
continued, or permitted, and upon conviction of any such
violation such person shall be punished by a fine of not more
than $299.00, or by imprisonment for not more than 6 months,
or by both such fine and imprisonment.
"Sec. 5-3-3. Governing body. All references to the city
council in the Uniform Building Code, Vol. III, Housing, 1967
Edition, adopted by Sec. 5-3-1, are amended to read the Board
of Commissioners of Salt Lake City."
SECTION 2. Chapter 14 of Title 18 of the Revised Ordinances of
Salt Lake City, Utah, 1965, relating to housing is hereby repealed.
SECTION 3. In the opinion of the Board of Commissioners of Salt
Lake City, it is necessary to the peace, health and welfare of the
inhabitants of Salt Lake City that this ordinance become effective
immediately.
SECTION 4. This ordinance shall take effect upon its first
publication.
Passed by the Board of Commissioners of Salt Lake City, Utah,
this 31st day of October , 1968.
