An ordinance levying a tax and for the assessment of
property on Virginia Street between Second and Fifth Avenues;
on Alta Street between Third and Fourth Avenues; on Third Avenue
between Virginia and Alta Streets, and on Fourth Avenue between
Virginia and Alta Streets, in Paving Districts No. 30 and 32
(Paving Extension No. 137), for the purpose of providing for the
grading, curbing and guttering, constructing drainage system and
private driveways, and paving thereof.
Be it ordained by the Board of Commissioners of Salt Lake
City, Utah:
SECTION 1. That the Board of Commissioners of Salt Lake
City does hereby levy the tax and provide for the assessment of
the same upon the property hereinafter described in Paving Dis-
tricts Nos. 30 and 32 (Paving Extension No. 137), for the purpose
of providing for the grading, curbing and guttering, constructing
drainage system and private driveways, and paving thereof, to-wit:
In Lots 1 to 25, inclusive, Block b; 25 to 48, inclusive,
Block 5, Popperton Place Subdivision; 1 to 24, inclusive, Block
5; 25 to 48, inclusive, Block 4, Popperton Place Plat "A" Subdi-
vision, all in Section 33, Township 1 north, Range 1 east, Salt
Lake Base and Meridian; and in part of said Section 33, Township
1 north, Range 1 east, Salt Lake Base and Meridian, abutting on
both sides of Virginia Street between Second and Fifth Avenues;
on both sides of Alta Street between Third and Fourth Avenues;
on both sides of Third Avenue between Virginia and Alta Streets;
and on both sides of Fourth Avenue between Virginia and Alta
Streets.
This tax is levied to defray the expense of grading, curbing
and guttering with cement, constructing drainage system to carry
water along and across streets and intersections, of vitrified,
concrete and corrugated iron pipe from six (6) inches to eighteen
(18) inches in diameter, constructing private driveways, and
paving (said pavement to be thirty (30) feet between curbs on
Third Avenue between Virginia and Alta Streets; on Alta Street
between Third and Fourth Avenues; and on Virginia Street forty-
two feet north from Fourth Avenue; forty (40) feet between Hurbs
on Virginia Street between Second and Fourth Avenues, and on
Fourth Avenue between Virginia 4mi and Alta Streets, and all of
said pavement to be six (6) inches thick with four (4) inch
bituminous macadam base and two (2) inch bitulithic topping with
gravel aggregate), the portions of said streets opposite the
property hereinbefore and hereinafter described to be especially
affected and benefited by said improvement, and it is nareby
adjudged, determined and established that said property will be
especially benefited thereby to the full amount of the tax hereby
levied, and said parcels of land are hereby assessed at an equal
and uniform rate in accordance with the linear foot frontage

upon said portions of said street,,fronting upon and to a depth
of twenty-five (25) feet back therefrom, and the tax hereby levied
and to be assessed upon said parcels of land is twenty-one
thousand sixty-two and 67/100 ( 21,062.67) dollars; nine thousand
three hundred sixty-three and 82/100 ( 9,363.82) dollars, or
five and 4/100 ( 5.04) dollars per front or linear foot of abut-
ting property for said thirty foot roadway, there being 1857.90
feet abutting said portion of said improvement; nine thousand

eighty-nine and 75/100 (49,089.75) dollars, or five and 15/100
(45.15) dollars per front or linear foot of abutting property
for forty foot roadway(single track) , ther4eing 1765 feet
abutting said portion of said improvement; two thousand four
hundred sixty-nine and 10/100 (: 2,469.10) dollars, or four and
99/100 ($4.99) dollars per front or linear foot of abutting
property for forty foot roadway (curb and gutter already built),
there being 494.81 feet abutting said portion of said improvement;
and one hundred forty (4140.00) dollars for private driveways,
or thirty-five dollars la(435.00) dollars for each private drive-
way, there being four private driveways, the cost of the con-
struction of which private driveways and the property benefited
thereby is hereinafter set out, and all within the bounda4.es of
the lots, blocks and streets above mentioned in said districts,
which is the total cost and cost per front foot of said improve-
ment, according to the contract entered into for the performance
of said work and making said improvement, with Strange-Maguire
Paving Company, dated the 22nd day of August, 1917, and the
Treasurer is hereby authorized and directed to assess, in
accordance with the provisions of this ordinance, for the purpose
herein mentioned:

The north side of Lots 1 to 24, inclusive, Block 6; the
south side of Lots 25 to 48, inclusive, and the east side of Lot
48, Block 5, Popperton Place Subdivision, being part of Section
33. Township 1 north, Range 1 east, Salt Lake Base and Meridian;
the east side of Lot 24, Block 5; the west side of the south 42
feet of Lot 25, Block 4, Popperton Place Plat "A" Subdivision,
being part of Section 33, Township 1 north, Range 1 east, Salt
Lake Base and Meridian; commencing 66 feet east of the northeast
corner of Lot 24, Block 6, Popperton Place Subdivision, thence

Lake Base and Meridian; commencing 25 feet east of the northeast
corner of Lot 4, Block 32, Plat "G", Salt Lake City Survey, thence
south 126 feet, being part of Section 33, Township 1 north, Range
1 east, Salt Lake Base and Meridian; the west side of Lot 25,
Block 5, Popperton Place Subdivision, being part of Section 33,
township 1 north, Range 1 east, Salt Lake Base and Meridian; the
west side of Lot 1, and the north side of Lots 1 to 24, inclu-
sive, Block 5; the south side of Lots 25 to 48, inclusive, Block
4, Poppertn Place Plat "A" Subdivision, being part of Section 33,

Commencing 25 feet east and 69.19 feet north of the south-
east corner of Lot 23, Victoria Place Subdivision of Block 17,
Plat "G", Salt Lake City Survey, thence north 87.81 feet, being
part of Section Township 1 north, Range 1 east, Salt Lake
Base and Meridian; commencing 25 feet east of the southeast
corner of Lot 1, Victoria Place Subdivision of Block 17, Plat
"G", Salt Lake City Survey, thence north 157 feet, being part of

Property Assessed for Private Driveways
In Addition to Regular Assessment.
The south side of Lot 28, the south side of Lot 44, Block 5;
the north side of Lot 2, Block 6, Popperton Place Subdivision,
being part of Section 33, Township 1 north, Range 1 east, Salt
Lake Base and Meridian; commencing 66 feet east and 225 feet north
of the northeast corner of Lot 24, Block 6, Popperton Place Sub-
division, thence north 15 feet, the same being a part of Section
33, Township 1 north, Range 1 east, Salt Lake Base and Meridian,
as the same are shown upon the official plats of said city to a
depth of twenty-five (25) feet back from said streets, and to
collect said tWx.
SECTION 2. Said tax shall become and be delinquent in ten
equal yearly installments, with interest on the whole sum unpaid
at the rate of six per cent per annum, payable at the time each
installment is due, to-wit: One-tenth thereof one year after the
ordinance confirming the levy of the tax for the payment for such
improvement becomes effective; one-tenth thereof in two years
after said ordinance becomes effective; one-tenth thereof in
three years after said ordinance becomes effective; one-tenth
tinuonf thereof in four years after said ordinance becomes
effective; one-tenth thereof in five years after said ordinance
becomes effective; ont-tenth thereof in six years after said
ordinance becomes effective; one-tenth thereof in seven years
after said ordinance becomes effective; one-tenth thereof in
eight years after said ordinance becomes effective; one-tenth
thereof in nine years after said ordinance becomes effective; and
one-tenth thereof in ten years titer said ordinance becomes

effective. One or more of said installments, in the order in
which they are payable, or the whole special tax, may be paid
at any time within thirty days after the ordinance confirming the
levy of the tax becomes effective, without interest. In the
event of any installment or the interest aforesaid not being
p3.d on thedate the same becomes due, the whole amount of the
special tax unpaid at the time said installment and interest are
due, shall become due and payable, and shall draw interest at
the rate of eight per cent per annum until the sale of the
property assessed; provided, one or more installments, in the
order in which they are payable, or the whole special tax unpaid,
may be paid on the day any installment becomes due, by paying
the amount thereof and interest to said date.
SECTION 3. This ordinance shall take effect one day after
its first publication.
