AN ORDINANCE AMENDING Section 25-6-4 of the Revised Ordinances
of Salt Lake City, Utah, 1965, relating to age limit of employees.
Be it ordained by the Board of Commissioners of Salt Lake
City, Utah:
SECTION 1. That Section 25-6-4 of the Revised Ordinances of
Salt Lake City, Utah, 1965, relating to age limit of employees,
be, and the same hereby is, amended to read as follows:
"Sec. 25-6-4. Age limit of employees. Officers and
employees of Salt Lake City may elect to take retirement
benefits in accordance with the provisions of the respec-
tive retirement act governing their particular place of
employment. No officer or employee of Civil Service shall
remain in the employ of Salt Lake City after reaching the
age of sixty-five years. No officer or employee other than
those in Civil Service shall remain in the employ of Salt
Lake City after reaching the age of sixty-five years, except
upon written application to and approval of the commissioner of
the department in which such officer or employee is employed,
together with the approval of the board of commissioners
upon good cause being shown for the retention of employment.
Such written application must be filed with the city recorder
prior to the date upon which the applicant would otherwise
be retired or terminated under this section and no applica-
tion for extension of employment shall be considered unless
such application has been so filed within the time limit.
No extension of employment hereunder shall be granted to any
employee or officer under any condition beyond his reaching
the age of seventy years."
SECTION 2. In the opinion of the Board of Commissioners of
Salt Lake City it is necessary to the peace, health and welfare
of the inhabitants of Salt Lake City that this ordinance become
effective immediately.
SECTION 3. This ordinance shall take effect upon its first
publication.
Passed by the Board of Commissioners of Salt Lake City, Utah,
this 22nd day of August, 1972.
