AN ORDINANCE AMENDING CHAPTER 1 of TITLE 15 of the Revised
Ordinances of Salt Lake City, Utah, 1965, relating to fire pre-
vention.
Be it ordained by the Board of Commissioners of Salt Lake
City, Utah:
SECTION 1. That Chapter 1 of Title 15 of the Revised Ordin-
ances of Salt Lake City, Utah, 1965, relating to fire prevention,
be, and the same hereby is, amended to read as follows:
Sec. 15-1-25. Fire lanes, It shall be the duty and
power of the City Fire Chief to designate, personally or
through the City Fire Marshal, Fire Lanes, where in their
judgment the geographical, traffic, population, density, or
any other relevant factors make such a designation desirable
to protect life or property from fire damage. They shall be
established and designed to enable Fire Department personnel
and equipment to have unimpaired, unobstructed and ready
access to the subject premises for the purpose of fire fight-
ing or control. Said Fire Lanes may be designated on any
premises, public or private, and such power of designation
shall include, but shall not be limited to hospitals, schools,
churches, theatres, restaurants, and shopping centers or malls.
To establish a Fire Lane, the Fire Department, through its
Chief or Fire Marshal, shall give written notice to the person,
firm or corporation in possession or control of the subject
premises, setting forth: (a) the designation of the Fire Lane,
(b) a general description of its location, (c) what signs,
marking or warnings shall be required to physically establish
said Fire Lane and give notice to others of its existance and
location, and (d) the time within which said person shall
comply. All signs, markings and warning devices required
shall be installed and supplied at the sole cost of the owner
or lessee of the subject premises within a reasonable time
stated by the Fire Department in its Notice.
Sec. 15-1-26. Fire lanes to be unobstructed, A Fire
Lane established and created pursuant to these Revised Or-
dinances shall be kept open and unobstructed at all times.
Any person who shall stop, park, stand or in any other way
cause a designated and marked Fire Lane to be blocked or ob-
structed shall be guilty of a misdemeanor.
ti?CTION 2. In the opinion of the Board of Commissioners it is
necessary to the peace, health and welfare of the inhabitants of Salt
Lake City that this ordinance become effective immediately.

SECTION 3. This ordinance shall take effect upon its first
publication.
