Sharman Wells Mr.Chairman Result AN ORDINANCE An ordinance emending Section 1150 of the i;evisod Ordinances of Salt L..ke City at' 1913. Be it ordained by the Board of Commissioners of Salt Lake City, Utah: SECTION 1. That Section 1150 of the Revised Ordinances of Salt Lake City of 1913, be, and the same is hereby amended so as to read as follows: SECTION 1150. It shall be unlawful for any person to erect or construct any sign, sign post, sign board, wood or metal awning, permanent advertisement, arch or any other structure, above, over, in or around any part of any street or sidewalk in Salt Lake City, without first obtaining permission so to do from the Board of Commissioners. Application for such permission shall be in writing, end shall contain the name of the person for whose benefit the same is made, the period of time for which such permit is so desired, the place where such structure is to be erected or constructed, the dimensions thereof, the materiel of which the same is to be composed, and the manner of construction; which application shell be accompanied by a blue print or drawing or tracing of such proposed sign or other structure. All signs hereafter erected that extend more than two feet beyond. the property line over any street, alley or way in Salt -1- 94 Lake City, must be constructed entirely of metal or other non- combustible material, end must be illuminated with at least ten candle power per square foot of exposed surface. Every sign hereafter erected under end pursuant to the provisions of this section, shall be placed at least ten feet e thepublic waywhich an above the surface of that part of y such sign overhangs, end the portion of any such sign nearest the building against which it is placed, shall not be a greater distance than two feet from such building. No sign hereafter erected shall be permitted to project more than eight feet beyond the property line. All sides of every sign designed to be illuminated shall bebe illuminated at least seven hours per week of each week. Every sign erected and maintained under and pursuant to of this section shall comply theprovisionsp y tith the rules and regulations of the Bureau of Mechanical Inspection pro- viding for the installation of wires, apparatus, electric wiring, heat, power end for the erection and installation of illuminated signs and displays. For the purpose of this ordinance illuminated signs shall1 be declared to be signs constructed as follows: Signs, all or any part of the letters of which ere made in an outline of incandescent lamps; signs, pointed flush,or with raised letter*, lighted by electric lamp or lamps attached thereto; signs i having a border of incandescent lamps attached thereto and reflecting light thereon, and transparent glass signs, whether 1 -2- I ' I,II lighted by electricity or other illuminant. The owner or person having charge or control of any signa awning, shade or balcony, authorized by this ordinance, shall'. pay the city an annual inspection fee to cover the expenses • of inspection of such sign; the amount of such fee to be com- puted by the following classification schedule: The fees for all signs projecting at right angles or • • obliquely from the building upon which the same are placed, whether such signs are vertical or horizontal, and not being flat signs as hereinafter described, shall be computed at the following rates: For permit to erect, $5.00. Annual inspection fee, 4igh'd cents per square foot for the first thirty square feet; sia ' I feet, and thenext thirtysquare for s uare foot cents perq three cents per square foot for each additional square foot over sixty square feet of illuminated surface. 11 The fees for roof signs and all signs placed against a building and running parallel thereto and not projecting obliquely or at right angles therefrom, shall be computed at the following rates: : For permit to erect, w2.00. Annual inspection fee of 1.00 per one hundred square feet. additional I If such sign be illuminated, there shall be an/annual11 w1 inspection fee of .00 for the first two lights, and five l I cents for each additional light; and if the owner prefers, he may pay for roof signs at the regular annual rate for project- ing signs. But no sign shall be maintained for a less annual fee than ;2.00. All fees shall be due and payable in advance, except the11 annul inspection fees, which shall be collected by the Burea4 of Mechanical Inspection as soon as the annual inspection of each sign is completed. 111I If any sign be found by the Bureau of Mechanical Inspec- I tion to be unsafe or dangerous, the same shall be forthwith I repaired end rendered safe by the owner thereof or the person! maintaining and controlling it; and if such sign be not forth7 with repaired and made safe, the Bureau of Mechanical Inspeo- tion I'I shall at once abate and remove it, and shall if necessary, II call upon the Fire Department for assistance in such abatement; and it shall be the duty of the Fire Department so to assist.
