AN ORDINANCE .
An ordinance levying a tax and for the assessment of property
within the distriet bounded on the north by Ninth South Street, on
the east by State Street, on the south by Martin and Roper Avenues,
and on the west by Fourth West Street, in Sidewalk Di triots Nos.
31 and 40, for the construction of cement sidewalks.
Be it ordained by the City Council of Salt Lake City, Utah:
SECTION 1. That the City Council does hereby levy the tax
and provide for the assessment of the same upon the property here-
inafter described in Sidewalk Districts "dos. 31 and 40, for the
construction of cement sidewalks, to-wit:
In Lots 1 to 5, inclusive, Walker's Subdivision, Block 4, . la,
"A", Salt Lake City Survey; 6, 7, 3, 9, 10 and 11, Block 22; 1, an.
11 to 20, inclusive, Block 1; 11 and 12, Block 2; 1, and 12 to 20,
inclusive, Block 3; 1, and 12 to 20, inclusive, Block 5; 1, and 13
to 22, inolusive, Block 7, North Columbia Subdivision, Block 22; 1
to 22, inclusive, Block 4; 1, and 11 to 18, inclusive, Block 3,
West Drive Subdivision, Block 23; 1 to 20, inclusive, Block 2; 10
to 20, inclusive, Block 1, Thorn Subdivision, Block 23; 1 to 11,
inclusive, and 34 to 57, inclusive, Block 2; 1 to 28, inclusive,
Block 3; 1 to 35, inclusive, Block 1, West Boulevard Subdivision,
Blook 23; 1 and 2, and 32 to 40, inclusive, Block 7; 1, and 2 to

street between Eighth South Street and Roper Avenue; 'on the west
side of West Temple Street between Mead and Roper Avenues; on the
east aide of West Temple Street between Ninth South Street and
Amerioan Avenue; on both aides of Paxton Avenue between West Templ
and First ',Jest Streets; on the north side of Herbert Avenue betweo
Main and State Streets; on both sides of Me or Street between
Belmont and Herbert Avenues, vnd between Harvard and Kelsey Avenue, ;

treets; on the south side of Mead Avenue between Alieds and hest
Streets; on both sides of Jefferson Street between Mead and
Goltz Avenues; on both sides of Goltz Avenue between West Temple
and First West Streets; on the east side of First West Street be-
tween Goltz and Paxton Avenues; and on both sides of Lucy Avenue
between West Temple and First West Streets.
This tax is levied to defray the expense of oonstructing• cemen
sidewalks upon the property hereinbefore and hereinafter described
to be especially affected and benefited by said improvement, and it
is hereby adjudged, determined and established that said property
will be especially benefited thereby to the full amount of the tax
hereby levied, and said parcels of land are hereby assessed. at an
equal and uniform rate in accordance with the linear foot frontage
upon said portions of said streets fronting upon and to a depth of
twenty-five (25) feet back therefrom, and the tax hereby levied and
to be assessed upon said parcels of land is ten thousand two hundre,
twelve and 66/100 Oitt ( 10,212.66) dollars; two thousand four. hun-
dred eighty-nine and 45/100 (42,489.45) dollar;;, or
74646146/100,000,000 00.74646146) dollars per front or linear foot
of abutting property for sidewalks of (6! fret wide and four (4)
inches thick, there being 3335 feet of abutting property within the
boundaries of the lots, blocks and streets above mentioned.; and
seven thousand seven hundred twenty-three and 21/10C (,7,723.221)
dollars, or 70/100 G0.70) dollars ,or front or linter foot of
abutting property for sidewalks five (5) foot aide and four (4)
inches think, there being 11033.15 feet of abutting property within
the boundaries' of the lots, bloobu and ntroets above mentioned, in
said. districts, Which is the total cost and cost pnr front foot of
said sidewalks, according to the contract .entered into for the per-
formance of said work and mekink said improvement, with Smith
Brothers Comuany, dated the 14th day of August, 1911, and the

with the provisions of this ordinance, for the purpose herein

a depth of twenty-Give (25) feet back from said streets, and to
collect said tax.
SECTION 2. Said tax shall beoome and be delinquent in five
equal yearly installments, with interest on the whole sum unpaid a
the rate of six per cent per annum, payable at the time each in-
stallment is due, to-wit: One-fifth thereof one year after the
approval of the ordinance confirming the levy of the tax for the
payment for such improvement; one-fifth thereof in two years after
such approval; one-fifth thereof in three years after such approve ;
one-fifth thereof in four years after such approval; and one-fifth
thereof in five years after such approval. One or more of said
installments, in the order in which they are payable, or the whole
special tax may be paid at any time within thirty days after the
approval of the ordinance confirming^ the levy of the tax, without
interest. In the event of any installment or the interest afore-
said, not being paid on the date the same becomes due, the *hole
amount of the special tax unpaid at the time said inctoliment and
interest are due, shall become due and payable, and shall draw
interest at the rate of eight per cent per annum until sale of the

property assessed; provided, one or more installments, in the) order
in which they are payable, or the whole special tax unpaid may be
paid on the day any installment beoomis due, by paying the amount
thereof and interest to said date.
SECTION 3. This ordinance shall take effect upon approval.
