Gentlemen:- In the matter No. 98, being an ordinance creating a Civic Planning and Art Commission, presented to your honorable body and referred to this department July 6, 1914, I would respectfully say: I herewith hand you an ordinance repealing the ordinance creating the Civic Art Commission, and also an ordinance creating a Civic Planning and Art Commission, which I recommend shall take the place of the above mentioned ordinance No. 98. City Recorder. Mayor An ordinance amending and re-enacting an ordinance creating a Civic Art Commission. 'Be it ordained by the Board of Commissioners of Salt Lake City, Utah, that an ordinance creating a Civic Art Commis- sion be amended and re-enacted to read as follows: 'Section 1 - There is hereby created in and for Salt ' Lake City, Utah, a Civic Planning and Art Commission, composed of seven members and possessing the powers and duties herein- after set forth. Section 2 - The Board of Commissioners of Salt Lake City shall within five days after this ordinance becomes effect- ive appoint five members from among the citizens of Salt Lake City who shall serve until the second Monday of January, 1915 without compensation. On the second Monday of January in 1915 the Board of Commissioners of Salt Lake City shall appoint throe members of the Civic Planning and Art Commission for a 'dirt Of four years and two for a term of two years. Thereafter' `,the Bos'rd of Commissioners of Salt Lake City shall biennially on the second Monday of January of each alternate year appoint members of the Civic Planning and Art Commission as vacancies may occur,; each member to serve for a term of four years, without compensation. Of these five members one shall be an artist and one an architect. The Commissioner of Parks and Public Property of'the Board of Commissi©ners of Salt Lake City and the President of tha,Board of the Free Public Library shall be ax-officio members of the said Civic Planning and Art Commission' and they shall serve as such without compensation. The Commissioner of Parks;and public Property shall be ex-officio chairman of the said Civic'. anniiig and Art Commission, which shall be included in the; Departmehtof Parks and Public Property �d under the general direction of the Commissioner of Parks and Public property. When plans, i*volving the work of any depart- ment of the city government are under consideration by the said Civic Planning and Art Commission, the member of the Board of Commissioners of Salt Lake City in charge of such department shall be ex-officio a member of the said Civic Planning and Art Commission for the consideration of all matters affecting his department. Section 3 - It shall be the duty of the said Civic • Planning and Art Commission and it shall have the power to advise and consult with and make recommendations to the Board of Commis- sioners of Salt Lake City upon all matters, plans and proposals ' affecting the development or artistic adornment of the city, whether in the way of public buildings or structures, parks, drives, boulevards or otherwise. Section 4 - The Civic Planning and Art Commission shall Save the power to appoint a vice chairman, soniximmuccest who shall be a member of the said Civic Planning and Art Commission, and a secretary who may or may not be a member of the said commission, both of whom shall serve without compensation. Section 5 - The said Civic Planning and Art Commission shall hold a regular meeting on the First Monday of each month and a special meeting may be called by the Chairman or upon the request of three members of the said commission upon giving 24 hours notice.
