AN ORDINANCE AMENDING Sections 18-2-14 and 18-2-15 of the Revised
Ordinances of Salt Lake City, Utah, 1965, relating to Garbage Receptacles
Specifications and the requirement that they be closed,to allow the use
of weather resistant paper bags made specifically for use in garbage and
refuse collection.
Be it ordained by the Board of Commissioners of Salt Lake City, Utah:
SECTION 1. That Sections 18-2-14 and 18-2-15 of the Revised Ordinances
of Salt Lake City, Utah, 1965, relating to Garbage Receptacles Specifications
and the requirement that they be covered and closed, be, and the same hereby
is, amended to read as follows:
"Section 18-2-14. Garbage receptacles specifications.
Every owner, lessee or occupant of any building, premises
or place of business, shall provide or cause to be provided
and at all times keep, at such place as the health commis-
sioner may direct, suitable and sufficient garbage recep-
tacles, either metallic receptacles with tight fitting lids
or properly and sufficiently treated weather-resistant paper
bags manufactured specifically for use in garbage and refuse
collection and having a twenty to thirty gallon capacity for
receiving and holding garbage, market waste and other refuse
that may accumulate from said building, place of business or
upon said premises or the portion thereof under the control
of such person. No metal receptacle shall be filled to exceed
one hundred pounds in weight and no paper bag above described
shall exceed seventy-five pounds in weight including weight of
receptacle. Each metal receptacle shall be provided with han-
dles for the convenient lifting of the same.'
"Section 18-2-15. Closed garbage containers required.
All garbage and market waste must be placed in rain-proof and
fly-proof receptacles, either a metallic container with proper
covers or weather-resistant paper bags specifically for use in
garbage and refuse collection having a method of closing the
bag tightly, and shall at all times be kept securely closed,
and shall be kept in such place and in such manner as to pre-
vent offense."
SECTION 2. In the opinion of the Board of Commissioners, it is
necessary to the peace, health and welfare of the inhabitants of Salt Lake

SECTION 3. This ordinance shall take effect upon its first
publication.
Passed by the Board of Commissioners of Salt Lake City, Utah,
this 23rd day of August , 1966.
