AN ORDINANCE AMENDING Section 25-4-6 of the Revised Ordinances
of Salt Lake City, Utah, 1965, by adding a new subsection (m) thereto
relating to educational incentive pay for peace officers.
Be it ordained by the Board of Commissioners of Salt Lake City,
Utah:
SECTION 1. That Section 25-4-6 of the Revised Ordinances of
Salt Lake City, Utah, 1965, relating to salary schedules, be, and
the same hereby is amended by ADDING a new subsection (m) as follows:
Sec. 25-4-6. ***

(m) Educational incentive pay for peace officers. In
addition to salaries provided herein, peace officers employed
in the Salt Lake City Police Department on a full-time,
permanent basis, who have completed all required basic training
courses and probationary periods, shall be entitled to the
following monthly allowances according to the educational
degree held by such officers:
Doctorate --- $100.00 per month
Masters 75.00 per month
Bachelors 50.00 per month
Associate 25.00 per month
An officer shall be eligible for incentive pay hereunder
following submission of his or her diploma evidencing completion
of degree requirements at a fully-accredited college or university
to the Chief of Police.
The foregoing notwithstanding, no officer shall be entitled
to compensation under this subsection for an educational degree
which qualifies the officer for his or her position of employment;
or for any degree which is not specifically related to the
officer's actual employment duties as determined by the City
Commission upon recommendation of the Chief of Police. For the
purposes of this subsection, degrceod l.in',the !following ,Shall be

SECTION 2. In the opinion of the Board of Commissioners of
Salt Lake City, it is necessary to the peace, health and welfare
of the inhabitants of Salt Lake City that this ordinance become
effective immediately.
SECTION 3. This Ordinance shall take effect upon its first
publication.
