WHEREAS, a bill has been proposed to the 1975 Session of the
Utah State Legislature, which bill is designated as Senate Bill No.
227; and
WHEREAS, said bill, if enacted into law, would require the
administration of all building regulations in the state to be with-
in the jurisdiction of a commission appointed by the governor, and
would invalidate all local building regulations and prohibit local
governing bodies from determining future building regulations; and
WHEREAS, such a mechanism for enforcement administration and
adoption of building standards would deny the public the protection
it should have through participation of its local representatives
in the development and enforcement of such standards.
NOW, THEREFORE, the Board of Commissioners of Salt Lake City
does hereby resolve that it does fully disapprove of the passage
of Senate Bill No. 227 and does hereby urge the Utah State Legislature
to take decisive and immediate action to defeat said bill.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Salt Lake City Recorder be
directed to forward a copy of this resolution to the Utah State
Legislature.
