WHEREAS, under the American system of Government, all citizens
are equal before the law and are entitled to the same right, to life,
liberty, and the pursuit of happiness without abridgement or denial
because of race, color or creed; and,
WHEREAS, discrimination between citizens in the granting of
services and accommodations open to the public generally based solely
upon race, color or creed is in violation of the basic rights of our
citizens under our system of government; and,
WHEREAS, such discrimination can only result in suffering and
humiliation to those who are discriminated against, and in conditions
inimical to the peace and well being of our Country:
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS OF
SALT LAKE CITY that the citizens and residents of Salt Lake City
rendering services or accommodations to the public generally are
hereby urged and admonished to accord to all persons equally such
services and accommodations without respect to race, color or creed
and thereby preserve the fundamental rights upon which our system of
government is founded.
Passed by the Board of Commissioners of Salt Lake City, Utah,
this 16th day of May, 1963.
