RESOLUTION
Result . . . . OF COMMENDATION
WHEREAS, on February 7, 1970, there did occur at Seventh West
and Sixth North a serious accident wherein Raymond Hedberg was trapped
inside a burning van-type truck; and
WHEREAS, Don Johnson, Vaughn Epperson, and Ray McFarlane did
respond to a call for help from Lynn Hedberg, son of Raymond Hedberg,
and did, without giving consideration to their own safety, aid and
assist police officers K. O. Halterman and R. K. Millard in the extri-
cation of Mr. Hedberg from the burning truck; and
WHEREAS, Salt Lake City is concerned with the growing tendency
throughout the nation on the part of citizens who do not go to the
aid of one in distress because of their desire not to get involved;
and
WHEREAS, Salt Lake City appreciates its public-spirited citizens;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS OF
SALT LAKE CITY, UTAH, that said Board, on its behalf and on behalf
of the inhabitants of Salt Lake City, does hereby express to Don
Johnson, Vaughn Epperson, Ray McFarlane, K. O. Halterman, and R. K.
Millard the sincere thanks of said Board for the heroic deed they
performed in saving the life of Mr. Hedberg. Said Board, further,
commends them for their willingness to aid their fellow man when in
distress.
The City Recorder is hereby directed to deliver a copy of this
Resolution to Don Johnson, Vaughn Epperson, Ray McFarlane, K. 0.
Halterman, and R. K. Millard.
Wed by the Board of Commissioners of Salt Lake City, Utah,
this day of February, 1970.
